Claire Davis dies from injuries in Arapahoe High School shooting

Source: Denver Post

Claire Davis, the 17-year-old who was shot in the head during the shooting at Arapahoe High School, has died.

The high school senior died at 4:29 p.m. with her family at Littleton Adventist Hospital on Saturday after eight days on life support.

In a Facebook posting at 5:15 p.m., Littleton Adventist Hospital said:

"It is with heavy hearts that we share that at 4:29 p.m. this afternoon, Claire Davis passed away, with her family at her side. Despite the best efforts of our physicians and nursing staff, and Claire's fighting spirit, her injuries were too severe and the most advanced medical treatments could not prevent this tragic loss of life. Claire's death is immensely heartbreaking for our entire community, our staff and our families.

As Americans, we should be ashamed. There is no reason in the world that so many of our nation's kids should be killed by guns. When are we all going to stand up and DEMAND some strict gun control laws? Why do we as a nation allow the NRA to bully us? No one is saying that Americans can't have their guns for hunting, etc. We want to outlaw assault weapons and we want background checks. Are we asking too much? How many more of our children are going to be killed? One would think that in a sane nation something would have been done after Newtown. How sad is it that it's unnerving to go to a mall, a theater, or to school.

She was such a beautiful young woman with so much to live for. This Christmas season must have been hell for her family and now this. It is so terribly sad.

In regard to your post, after Newtown, I thought for sure we would get gun control. The number of people who came out for it was phenomenal.

And then....to watch our Congressional members fold. It is almost as if it doesn't matter what the people want.

There is an article at The Nation that suggests other countries need to come to our aid as the situation is so out of control.

And then there is this shocking truth:

That is how bad it is.

but hey it's a lot easier to be afraid of the scary brown dude yelling gibberish in a language you can't understand than it is the mentally ill kid down the street whose dad has an arsenal to protect him from these threats (I know that's not what happened here but that's all too often the case).

perpetrated by sick or bigoted fools with guns. What a waste of human life and potential. Squandered because of the ability of sick fools able to wield weapons of human destruction. How very, very sad. Deep condolences to her family and friends.

Such a weapon should never been available to that messed up boy. But after Columbine, Virginia Tech, Aurora, and Newtown, we did nothing to limit the accessibility of these weapons of mass destruction. Shame on this country. My heart goes out to her loved ones. What a horrible dirty rotten shame.
