NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Louisiana's lieutenant governor says the "Duck Dynasty" reality TV show is important to state tourism - and he could help connect the Robertson family with new producers if they cannot reach agreement with the A&E network.

The network suspended patriarch Phil Robertson last week for telling GQ magazine that gays are sinners akin to adulterers and swindlers.

"Regardless of one's views on Phil Robertson's statements, Duck Dynasty has been an important representation of the state of Louisiana, inspiring prospective visitors and investors since its debut," Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne said in a statement emailed Saturday.

The show is produced around the Robertson family's home base in Ouachita Parish. KNOE-TV of Monroe reported in February that the show was bringing people from around the country who wouldn't otherwise stop in northeast Louisiana. The Duck Commander warehouse has become a tourist attraction, said Alana Cooper, director of the Monroe-West Monroe Visitors and Convention Bureau.

Mardi Gras is hardly a blip on the radar in the north east part of Louisiana where Monroe is located. No casinos over there either. Pretty much the only game in town as far as tourist dollars are concerned.

4. I guess you could say Duck Dynasty is the Republican creation to attract tourism to Louisiana.

On the other hand the casinos was a creation from the Democrats, guess which one brings in the most tourism and especially the dollars. Now we can see who the hard workers in Louisiana are. I am thinking A&E could sell the show to TBN or Daystar and just let it go. Phil can do preaching there and all would be happy.

Dardenne, a Republican, said he hadn't decided when he would officially announce his plans to throw his hat into the upcoming gubernatorial race. He said he hoped the new website would help him and his campaign team spread his message ahead of the 2015 contest.

"At some point, I'll have an announcement. But this race is two years off and I have a job to do as lieutenant governor. I'm going to continue to do that every single day," Dardenne said Thursday.

There's a lot of competition for the dumbest voters in the nation, but he's pandering to people who believe stupidity is a virtue. 14. Is there any reason to "flock" to Ouachita Parish if you're not a hunter?

Besides the duck call factory and outdoor sports like hunting and fishing, the only significant tourist draw up there is a museum in a deceased Coca-Cola baron's home. (Because Coca-Cola barony doesn't pay quite as well as oil barony or steel barony, his house isn't huge - but it is a pleasant place.)

Seriously, guys: there are places that can draw huge numbers of tourists and places that can't, and northern Louisiana is one of the places that can't.
