Alabama Lawmaker Proposes Legislation Backing Duck Dynasty Star
Source: CNN
(CNN) - The controversial comments about homosexuality made by "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson have come up in conversations across the country in the past two weeks and may make its way to the Alabama state legislature next month.
Republican state Sen. Jerry Fielding plans to introduce a symbolic resolution in support of the Louisiana family's patriarch.
What Robertson said on homosexuality, Fielding told CNN Friday, is "supported by the biblical scriptures."
"For too long, the silent majority has remained silent when we ought to be speaking up" for what Fielding described as a Constitutional right to speak one's mind.

(8,492 posts)If (BIG 'if') this thing passes, they'll be opening up a gigantic can of worms that will open up lawsuits against employers all over their state. No more, "My employee called a customer a dumbass on her FB page, so I fired her."
If they're going to force private companies to allow free speech of all types, racists, bigots, disgruntled/abused employees, jerks and scum will be allowed to run free through the communities, destroying the reputation of countless companies.
But, I suspect bright attorneys with an inkling of Constitutional Law will make a fortune.
Love to see how they promote keeping government out of private lives and businesses, though.

(1,015 posts)You are just playing into the right wings hand by bashing this guy and his family, number one watched show of poor guys that make it, far and few in-between in the south.
Southerners make it with the philosophy, Can you really do without that; Meaning spend your money wisely because you dont have much.
Bashing these guys does more harm then good no matter what they say or think.
Your just filling in the voters ballet leaving off any Democrats!
Canard, outsmarting your opponents with a Canard!
Conard; French, literally, duck; in sense 1, from Middle French vendre des canards à moitié to cheat, literally, to half-sell ducks
Or half backed story to use for other purposes, outsmarting your opponents with a Canard!

(246 posts)More than a few of us "poor southern boys" have done quite well for ourselves without being racists and homophobes. Many of us can hunt, fish and find our way through the swamps just as well or better as Robertson or his supporters.
The GOP has done a good job so far of winning the southern vote with bullshit (redneck-ese for canard). Democrats need to do better than bullshit.

(38 posts)I really am ticked off Alabama! Why is it that every stupid thing coming down the pike has you jumping on the bandwagon and looking oh so stereotypically Alabamian? This is a gorgeous state in so many ways but mostly brain dead-prolly from football injuries. And yes, I can criticize as I live here and am a liberal import. Days like this have me wondering why though....
