First on CNN: Liz Cheney, daughter of Dick Cheney, is ending her bid for Wyoming's Senate seat, sources tell CNN's John King.
New York (CNN) -- Liz Cheney, whose upstart bid to unseat Wyoming Sen. Mike Enzi sparked a round of warfare in the Republican Party and even within her own family, is dropping out of the Senate primary, sources told CNN late Sunday.
Cheney, the eldest daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, began telling associates of her decision over the weekend and could make an official announcement about the race as early as Monday.
Cheney's surprising decision to jump into the race, an announcement made in a YouTube video last summer, roiled Republican politics in the Wyoming, a state Dick Cheney represented in Congress for five terms before moving up the Republican food chain in Washington.
Enzi was a low-key presence in Washington who was elected in 1996 and, with few blemishes, amassed a conservative voting record in the Senate. He expressed public annoyance at Cheney's decision to mount a primary challenge. A number of his Senate colleagues quickly rallied to his side and pledged support for his re-election bid.

(7,402 posts)Then she quickly got in trouble over trying to save a few dollars on a Wyoming fishing license that strings were pulled on, exposing her privileged status, and everybody openly stood their distance as she was exposed as not ready for prime time -- even throwing her own sister under the bus. This is a merciful death for a campaign that was doomed from the start by the candidate.

That family is seriously messed up. Can't believe he ran our country for 8 yearsand we still have scars from it. I can attest to that personally.
Thx again.

Men can be loud, bigoted, aggressive, sexist, racist and ugly,
Women can only get away with being loud, bigoted, aggressive, sexist (in a backhanded way) and racist.
Just like Fox News needs blond bimbos to keep their salivating older right-wing white males watching, the GOP needs relatively attractive space cadets like Bachmann and Palin to keep their attention.

(1,009 posts)I really want her to run and completely disrupt the whole GOP primary process, only to either win the primary and then lose out to a Democrat, or lose in the primaries only to skulk back home (in another state) with her tail tucked between her legs.
Whatever the case, she dropped out too soon.
I would have loved to see this play out and have her high tail it back to Virginia with her spiked tail between her legs.
It was getting really ugly and I was loving it!
The mean, no-nothing P.O.S spawn of "shooter" was showing her true, nasty colors.
Throwing everyone and anyone under the bus, even her own sister.
Pity it has come to an end.

Oh, pooh.
We were so excited these past few months watching Elizabeth The Not Lesbian One Cheneys campaign flop around like a landed trout caught by someone with an ill-gotten fishing license as we have documented here and here and here and here and here and here and, well, you get the idea. But it seems that Liz recently sat down with her pollsters who aggregated, weighted, and indexed a collection of statewide polls in Wyoming using formulas which accounted for economic status, ethnicity, party identification and past voting history and concluded that, as her head pollster explained to her: nobody likes you, everybody hates you, they think you should eat some worms.. and so now Liz is probably going to pull out just like her dad didnt do when he really really needed that fifth deferment.
...
I have to admit that I am intrigued by this problematic recent incident involving a close member of the Cheney family which could range anywhere from setting a stack of her sisters Indigo Girls CDs on fire in the backyard to Dick, Im worried about the Beaver, and also you need to go talk to your daughter. She shot her sister in the face AGAIN today so I sent her to her room.
Needless to say, I will miss watching Liz Cheney become more and more shrill and homicidal as her campaign continued to implode until eventually she would lose it on national TV (I had: shanks an uppity reporter in my office pool). But now she will just pack up her carpetbags and sadly head back to Virginia where shell probably sit around the house in sweats all day drinking pitchers of blood orange jalapeno margaritas and screaming at Ellen on the teevee because its all the lesbians (Mary Cheney's) fault and now America is going to die or something

(19,558 posts)Not that there was any doubt this carpetbagging, sister backstabbing, thought she could ride on the coattails of her evil daddy in politics, POS was going to fail.
She cites "serious health issues" that "have recently arisen in our family" as the reason for dropping out. I wonder if the health issues stem from the shock that dear daddy Dick couldn't bully the Republicans the the US Senate to support his offspring, let alone the ones in his old home state of Wyoming?

(5,842 posts)Like most Tea Party candidates she was going to DC so she could get paid on the tax-payer dime in order to keep the government from functioning.
The only difference in policy that she seemed to have with Enzi was that he was willingness to "work with" the Dems. She never offered a reason for anyone to throw out Enzi and hire her to take his place.

(3,596 posts)I agree that Liz Cheney and her Orwellian family are the things nightmares are made from. They represent everything I am against.
That said....it appears the reason she is giving up her bid is due to a serious health issue with one of her daughters. Could that claim be manufactured? Of course. Is it likely the would manufacture such a claim for "cover"? Yes. But let's just assume it is true.
If we progressives claim to be persons of compassion and personal integrity then it is incumbent upon us to show that compassion and wish Liz and her family the best (provided she stay out of politics and our lives).
I was born and raised in Wyoming so I have some credibility here. People from Wyoming are conservative but generally not of the knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing variety.
They "believe" in certain things they don't really understand such as 'freedom' and 'gays shouldn't marry'. But otherwise they are in general a population, the nation's smallest, that are very sensitive to the actions of the federal government. Yes we know they don't realize they get a whole bunch more from DC than they contribute but their perception is DC governs their lives whether it is gun control, the ACA, snowmobile restrictions in Yellowstone or re-introducing the gray wolf.
