Coburn May Cut Senate Term Short As He Battles Cancer

Source: TPM

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), who announced in November that he was undergoing treatment for a recurrence of prostate cancer, is weighing how treatment will affect his ability to serve out his term.

The Republican firebrand told Politico in an interview published Thursday that he believes he's “plenty healthy enough” to complete his term.

But he'll receive the results of medical tests in February that are expected to give a clearer picture of whether he'll need treatment that may interfere with his legislative work, according to Politico.

"The decision I make will be made in conjunction with my family as to how I can best implement and impact things," Coburn told the publication. "And if I don’t think I can, I won’t.”

I hope he decides to retire (hopefully in February) and take care of the cancer and spend time with his family whether for one day or fifty years.

I don't agree with his politics, but I certainly wish no harm to him.
I hope he can beat this and spend time with his family.

I fear who Mattress Mary Fallin will appoint if he cannot continue. The Devil you know is better than the Devil you don't. I know he is very conservative, but there are some down here who are crazy along with conservative. Most of those are friends with Mary. I'm not sure about the rules down here, but I need to find out. I could see her putting herself in that seat and that should terrify people.

With that said, please take care of yourself Senator Coburn, do what is best for you and your family.

too bad the people of his state don't have that same luxury. It would be nice if he realized how lucky he is and helped push his state legislature to expand medicaid for their people. Doubt it will happen though. Best wishes for him and his family though.

so many people without health insurance or the means to fight the disease. Coburn is a lucky man with everything he needs at his fingertips and he still may lose the battle. I only wish he could empathize with so many who are denied the chance to fight for their lives. Oh, and did I mention, Tom Coburn is decidedly "pro-life."

however, wasn't he the guy who told one of his constituents who was caring for a very sick husband at home who did not have coverage for his care she should ask the neighbors to help and not expect the government to help?

He has at times spoken apolitical truth on issues.

I hope he chooses family values over serving out his term, or
running again.

Does anyone say as they look back on their lives, "Gee, I wish
I'd spent more time at the office!"?

Wonder if he has access to Redistributed Taxpayer Funded Big Govt. Healthcare?
Where can I sign up for the same coverage as Coburn & not have to pay?
A True Republican Conservative Patriot would never participate in any such SOCIAL program.
Someone help Rep/Con/Teas with the definition of hypocrisy.
