Trump asks Republicans for united party if he runs for governor

Source: Politics on the Hudson

Celebrity billionaire Donald Trump told a group of more than 40 Republican leaders today that he would want a united party if he runs for governor, a spokesman said.

Trump spent more than two hours behind closed doors with county GOP chairmen across the New York and other party leaders as they encourage him to run for governor this fall against Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat.

Trump told the group that he would need to see the party unified behind him if he were to run, said spokesman Michael Cohen.

Trump would never subject himself to the financial reporting and disclosures involved in running. Trump is trying to generate interest in his NBC reality show. The ratings for the 2013 version were horrible and I was surprised that the show was renewed.

...now he says he'll only run if everyone wants him to? And he's starting with party bigwigs rather than with the media themselves?

Does he sense that his schtick has become inane? Does this signal some less-phony impulse to serve?

It could be that this is as serious as Trump gets.

This is not how a serious candidate operates. The only reason for these meetings is so that he can generate attention for his TV Show.

The ratings for the 2013 show were bad and the show nearly did not get renewed. Trump needs to get decent ratings this year and in his mind this is a way to generate ratings

Look, nobody gets a united anything. The best you can hope for is that the Billionaires find use for you before they dispose of you. The real Billionaires, not YOU.

... but for the love of God, GOP, don't put up a guy who has filed bankruptcy four times and hangs out with the WWE... Anything is better than that.

Carl Paladino (the pissed-off Buffalonian businessman) is better. Even Capt. Worthless Rick Lazio is better (the guy who got beat by a carpetbagger for senate in 2000... yes, Hillary Clinton was a carpetbagger).

Cuomo turned a $10 billion deficit into a $2 billion surplus, started cutting some of the horrid red tape in this state which had pretty much killed Upstate manufacturing, put a tax cap in place for a state where taxes have skyrocketed, and a whole lot of other stuff.

But a lot of people hate Andy, on both sides of a aisle these days. Unions are pissed, gun owners are pissed, evangelicals are pissed... if the GOP gets a good candidate, it could be 1994 all over again.

(BTW, that's when Mario Cuomo, who was talked about a lot for the White House, got his ass handed to him by a Republican. Yes, for those of you who know nothing of NYS politics, the last name is significant.)

I don't think he's trying to pump up ratings for his television show - for fuck's sake, in an economy where everyone's at risk of losing his or her job, a television program where the highlight is someone getting fired is NOT entertainment. And if Trump really thinks it is, he's more psychopathic than we thought.

No, the endgame is "President Trump." Trump knows he can't win the presidential election without first holding a lower elected office, and governor of New York is prestigious enough to serve as a springboard to the office he really wants.

Trump knows something very well: his whole schtick is as this hard-nosed businessman. (You know, the "you're fired!" thing. Didn't this asshole actually attempt to trademark that phrase?) The real Trump is a bully whose businesses have filed bankruptcy four times and who makes his money in the booze-and-gambling industry. He's also EXTREMELY thin-skinned. A guy who has more dirty laundry than the state of West Virginia would probably never survive the primary, and if he did Cuomo's advertising agency would have the easiest job in the world: clipping out thirty-second snippets of the Republican debates and sending them to tv stations.

What could be entertaining, though, is for one of the Repuke contenders to demand to see the birth certificate for the animal Trump glues to his head.
