Rodman apologizes for not helping US missionary

Source: AP

BEIJING (AP) — Former basketball star Dennis Rodman apologized on Monday for not being able to help an American missionary detained in North Korea during his trip there to play in a game to celebrate the birthday of his friend and leader Kim Jong Un.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry I couldn't do anything," Rodman told media on his arrival at Beijing airport from a weeklong trip. "It's not my fault. I'm sorry. I just want to do some good stuff, that's all I want to do."

Rodman and the squad of retired NBA players he took to North Korea for an exhibition game marking Kim's birthday have met with criticism in the U.S. because of North Korea's human rights record and its development of nuclear weapons.

Rodman was also slammed for not using his influence with Kim to help free Kenneth Bae, the missionary in poor health who has been detained for more than a year for "anti-state crimes." Rodman apologized last week for comments he made in a CNN interview implying Bae was at fault, saying he had been drinking and was upset because some of his teammates were leaving under pressure.

You have no problem with this whole scenario? Did you watch the video and his moronic behavior? Are you intentionally trying to start crap on this thread?

Why should I care what he does one way or the other? No, I didn't watch the video but I assume it was mornonic because it's Dennis Rodman. I am not the one starting anything. People getting worked up because some other person doesn't behave the way they want them to would be starting something.

This is about a brutal dictator with probably the worst human rights record living on the planet earth right now. And this is about a C level celebrity giving this brutal dictator legitimacy by paying attention to him, serenading him on his birthday, palling around Pyongyang with him, etc.

Apparently you care enough about Rodman to make two posts on DU about it...usually if I don't care about something I don't read and write on blogs about it.

He was one hell of a basketball player! Couldn't shoot for shit, but man, could he rebound! Led the league several seasons for rebounding.

It's evident Dennis wouldn't make a pimple on a real ambassador's ass, and maybe now he realizes it. Hell, real ambassadors fuck up a lot also.

Hopefully, all the shit being dumped on his head by all the armchair ambassadors, including the ones here, won't discourage anyone else who might be a position to do some good in the world from trying!

First off, Rodman's a self centered ass. You'd think he could have at least said to his good friend "Hey Kim, holding Mr. Bae in prison is really hurting your image. You ought to consider sending him home."

But, as you said, the guy is an ass. Why would anybody suddenly expect this guy to be some sort of ambassador?
