Suspect in custody in shooting at Roswell, N.M., school

Police said the middle school was on lockdown. No immediate reports of injuries.

A suspect has been taken into custody following a shooting at Roswell middle school in New Mexico, according to Roswell police.

Berrendo Middle School is on lockdown, the police department said on its Facebook page.

Police asked parents not to go to school.

There were no immediate reports of injuries from the incident.

A source told KOAT-TV that at least one person was taken to the hospital after the shooting.

Television news station KRQE is reporting that University Hospital in Lubbock, Tx., said a 14-year-old student who was injured in the shooting is being airlifted there.

KOB-TV reports that Eastern New Mexico Medical Center said that two students injured in the shooting are being treated there.

As a kid, we had those stupid air raid drills, which were really scary.

But I can't imagine being a kid today and having to have drills about lone shooters coming into your school.

Tragic, just effing tragic.

it's apologists, this event is "statistically" insignificant because some child was most likely killed in an automobile accident today, or maybe drowned in a swimming pool. These shootings are just "friendly fire" from the battle against the "government" to prevent them from confiscating our sacred guns.

All we need to do is improve mental health care in this nation, and these insignificant school shootings will stop.

Although this is on my part, sadly there are many "gun enthusiasts" who actually believe this way...

When guns outnumber m and m's I suppose it is easier to shoot someone then to offer them a candy coated chocolate.

something I can understand in less urban parts of the state where bears and rattlesnakes are common pests.

I'm really surprised this doesn't happen more often. It does in other states with high gun ownership.
