New Illnesses Reported After W.Va. Water Deemed Safe

Source: WCHS

There are some new health concerns cropping up from the water crisis. What's frightening is that the people who are getting sick are seeing the symptoms after their water was deemed safe.

Mark Parsons-Justice was getting a check-up with his doctor, after a second round of sickness from contaminated water. Like a lot of people, he experienced eye irritation and stomach problems after smelling the odor from Thursday's chemical spill and drinking the water all day, before the do-not-use order was put in place.

"Just after 9 p.m. went, zone four went blue," he said "We flushed our lines, followed the guidelines from West Virginia American Water, did everything we were told to do. 45 minutes after the flushing had ended, I washed my hands with a soap I normally use."

That's when a new problem appeared: bright red rashes and peeling skin on his hands, even a dark burn where he usually wears a wedding ring.

and there's this:
Eric Foster got the call last night. West Virginia American Water said the water at his South Charleston home is safe.

But that doesn't mean he's ready to use it again.

"The water smells like licorice, and I don't really think that's safe," Foster said. "I'll never drink it again."

Five days after a chemical spill into the Elk River left water unusable for 300,000 West Virginia American Water customers in nine counties, some residents are still wary of using the water even after officials say it's safe again.

Not unless this a magical chemical that hides in the plumbing and only comes out
when humans are using the water it should be able to be flushed from the system.

Of course, by that same token, water 'remembers' the dinosaur piss from 65M years ago, too.

Corporations lie. That's why Republicans love them so.

For Republicans so loved the Corporations that they made them human

So, it's still in the water. Plus it's in the lines still. I don't think flushing the water system for 45 mins is enough. It may be the case where once it's "gone", all the pipes and water lines that deliver water to people will need replacing or a way in which to "scrub" the lines.

I can't imagine sticking my kid in the bath or washing my clothes to wear in this. I'm sure just smelling this is bad and harmful for the body; let alone allowing the largest organ on the human body (skin) to marinate in it while showering or bathing or wearing clothes that were just washed in it. And if people are washing their clothes, how long does it get stuck in the machine?

And now that the water is "safe", FEMA, Red Cross, and other support systems that were delivering potable water will be packing up and heading out. This will leave those with the least amount of money extremely vulnerable. Also, now all the restaurants will be back to using the water to cook and clean with.

Got to love the private market which ciphons off our public lands, leaves destruction in their paths, and then leaves the tax payers holding the bag when the company creates a super fund type of situation when they screw up. If you think the Gulf of Mexico is "clean" and "safe", there's a bridge to no where in Alaska I'd love to sell to you.

Oh and now, BP doesn't want to pay out claims any longer. They are fighting payments in court now that certain charges have passed the statute of limitations. They are pretending like BP was duped and they didn't read their agreed upon means of paying out claims and making the Gulf whole from their destruction of lives and the environment. So, there's that to look forward to as well. The promises to make the community whole financially so they can avoid criminal investigations, and then for them to re-neg on any deals they set up with the Govt. Plus you have every singl politician, no matter what aisle they sit, protecting the coal industry. They are paid to protect the owners and not the people.

All of their statements are based on guesswork. That is because our nearly-unregulated market did not require the manufacturer of the chemical to thoroughly check its impact on human health.

They don't know what it will do. That is the truly scary bit.

7. Guessing a safe level

Jan 2014

The scientist, Richard Denison of the Environmental Defense Fund, an advocacy group, said the government calculation of a safe level appeared to be based on a single study by the chemical’s manufacturer, never published, and that it included several leaps of reasoning that he called unfounded.

“This is a significant departure from how the E.P.A. normally calculates risk,” he said.

Although there have been no serious hospitalizations from the spill of up to 7,500 gallons of MCHM into the Elk River on Thursday, the shutdown of drinking water affecting 300,000 people amounted to a sweeping health and economic emergency in the state capital.

Now that normalcy is returning, however, the authorities appear to have another problem, one of public distrust.

Got him a trophy gal but she needs a bigger diamond. Coat seems a bit overkill judging by the open vest behind. The new royalty. Wow, what a photo.

"Let them brush their teeth with 4-methylcyclohexane methanol" = let them eat cake. It foams well.

This won't bother their beautiful minds.
