Newtown gunman's father meets with Conn. official

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The father of the gunman in the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting has agreed to help an investigatory commission obtain his son's school and medical records, the commission's chairman said Friday.

Members of the Sandy Hook Advisory Commission hope Adam Lanza's records will help shed light on the young man's motivations and personal challenges leading up to the December 2012 massacre of 20 first-graders and six educators in Newtown.

Adam Lanza's father, Peter Lanza, met for about an hour Thursday with commission chairman and Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson. Jackson said he provided Lanza with sample release forms, drafted by the commission's attorney, that request Adam Lanza's medical and educational records.

Jackson said he also provided Lanza with some topics commission members hope to learn more about, such as a clarification of Adam Lanza's interactions with mental health professionals and whether any information contained in school documents should have indicated any issues.

It is absurd that the records have not been released, Lanza is dead..there are no privacy
issues that would be legitimate...but there is stalling by the law firm. Berchem, Moses & Devlin, P.C.

I believe the father when he said he was surprised they had not obtained the records yet..Newtown schools
did not need to refuse..they likely are more than a little concerned about what all the IEP's
notes, meetings indicate.

We know a few important things, Adam's psychologist years back, left his practice and his credentials,
destroyed all treatment records, and now lives in New Zealand and works as a social worker. When
interviewed, he claims the Mom was not on board with medication...seems she was misinformed/paranoid
about its side effects. Adam was also seen at Yale, and when they spoke to the Yale reps, they pointed
to their suggestions made to the Mom and to Newtown Schools..their recommendations were rejected
by both parties.

That is one reason the schools are fighting the release of the documents.
