White House threatens veto of House abortion bill
By DONNA CASSATA Associated Press 2:47 p.m.Jan. 27, 2014

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration is threatening a veto of legislation that would permanently ban federal funds for abortion.

In a statement on Monday, the administration said the measure would intrude on women's reproductive rights and prohibit the ability of individuals to spend their own money on insurance coverage for abortion under President Barack Obama's health care law.

The so-called Hyde amendment bans federal funds for abortion and has been included in every spending bill since 1976. But proponents of the current bill said it's necessary to make that prohibition permanent.

Republican Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey, sponsor of the bill, told the House Rules Committee on Monday that his measure ensures that the health care law conforms with the Hyde amendment.

I don't want my taxes to support the religious beliefs of the Hyde Amendment.

How come this point of view has never been heard in this debate?

This is a bill that the GOP votes upon to please its base. They know the bill will not pass the Senate (They said as much when they announced it last week). The White House knows it too. They never will have to veto. This is a show vote.

Dems need to put forth a bill that bans the Hyde amendment being put into the spending bill. Even that shouldn't be news.

This is a not-so-transparent way for some to tell the Christian base they are with them. I hope they will thank Obama for obliging and threatening a veto, but I would not hold my breath.

For a job bill, I would not hope too much. May be a few items, but not much.

"In a statement on Monday, the administration said the measure would intrude on women's reproductive rights and prohibit the ability of individuals to spend their own money on insurance coverage for abortion under President Barack Obama's health care law."

And, have a rebuttal to the insanity that is the teabagger congress.

... you would have to have enough votes from the likes of you.

Once there, please pass a Public Funding Act that will ban the 1% and any other private-interest group other than the taxpayers from bribi... uh, from contributing to any campaign forever after.

but I'll take it.

Not that it stands a chance of getting through the Senate.

16. Religious types are planning a dangerous path to tyranny

I think Sarah Palin was quoted recently talking about a "path to tyranny". She was probably thinking of her fundie friends and their plans to restrict abortions any way they can.
