Congressmen call for fed probe on N.J. Sandy spending

A contractor was fired from its $68 million state job to distribute Sandy housing money only seven months after Gov. Chris Christie's administration praised it for making a contract bid that indicated "a good overview of the tasks required to complete the scope of work."
On Wednesday, two members of New Jersey's congressional delegation called for a federal investigation into the hiring and firing of Hammerman and Gainer Inc. The company was awarded a three-year contract in May but the state terminated the contract in December with no public explanation.
HGI was paid a $7 million termination fee.

The programs for distributing $780 million in Sandy aid that New Orleans-based HGI oversaw have been criticized at legislative hearings for delays and lack of transparency.
