Kansas Senator Pat Roberts Doesn't Actually Live in Kansas

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KY) does not have a home in his home state of Kansas and, when he needs an address in the state, uses one that belongs to two donors.

According to The New York Times, Roberts, who is facing a primary challenge from tea party favorite Milton Wolf, uses the address of donors C. Duane and Phyllis Ross for voter registration and a place to sleep occasionally when he travels to the state.

"I have full access to the recliner," Roberts told the newspaper of the home in Dodge City, Kansas. "Nobody knows the state better than I do."

Roberts and his wife, a real estate broker, own a home in Alexandria, Virginia.

He was serving as Senator from Pennsylvania, claimed he lived in a house that was clearly vacant. Meanwhile, Ricky and his brood were living all the while in Virginia.

Pennsylvania taxpayers were paying to cyber-school his children.

Mr. Roberts’s aides candidly acknowledge that the moves are an effort to ensure that he will not suffer the same fate as Mr. Lugar, who was criticized for staying in hotels when he returned home and listed on his voter registration an Indianapolis address at which he did not reside. Mr. Roberts moved his address from a rental property he owned in Dodge City but had long since leased to tenants, and got a new driver’s license giving the golf course home as his address.

He began paying the Rosses $300 a month to allow him to stay overnight with them occasionally. “We’re not going to get Lugar’d,” said David Kensinger, an adviser to Mr. Roberts.

Mr. Ross said in a telephone interview that he could not remember how many times the senator had stayed at the family’s home since last October. “I would say several,” he said. Asked when the last time was, he said he could not remember, and the senator’s staff also declined to provide dates, but said he had stayed there “a few” times.

Ohio's Secretary of Voter Suppression (aka Ohio Secretary of State) Jon Husted did the same thing when he was in the Ohio State House of Representatives and even Speaker of the Ohio House. He lived in Upper Arlington, a wealthy suburb of Columbus, with his family, while claiming he lived in Kettering, a suburb of Dayton to keep his House seat.

Husted got away with this by appealing to the GOP controlled Ohio Supreme Court. Which just proves every race on the ballot is vitally important.
