House GOP Prepping Debt Limit Bill
Source: Politico via TDB
House Republicans are preparing to introduce a bill as soon as next week that would lift the debt limit until the first quarter of 2015, according to sources who spoke with Politico. The bill would also patch the Medicare reimbursement rate for nine months and change the cost of living benefits for military retirements. Under the plan, Republicans would seek an extra year of cuts to mandatory spending and changes to pension contributions.

(25,111 posts)in the house. They are leaches and will claim it was their idea and of course the corporate media will support them.
It reminds me of bullies who take credit for homework that the nerds complete for them. Bullies get credit and nerds are nerds.

(31,849 posts)How do Democrats just not discuss legislation that has been/will be introduced?

(12,958 posts)The Republicans do it all the time. Filibuster it. There are lots of ways. This legislation is frivolous and meaningless. Let the Republicans self destruct all by their selves.

(4,427 posts)Along with the other Federal employees who are about to get pension cuts.
I've worked for 26 years - and under the FERS pension system, after 30 I would qualify for a pension worth about 25% of my annual (high-three) salary.
For that, I currently (and for the last 26 years) have paid in 0.8% of my salary, and the Agency I work for has paid in 11.9% of my salary, for a total of 12.7% each year. That money has been deducted from my pay since the day I began. I also pay into Social Security, and a 401(k) style fund.
The Federal Employee retirement system is fully funded, and solvent. Has been. Forever.
But apparently that is too good a target for Mr. Ryan, who wishes to change my contribution amount from 0.8?% to 4.4%. - in short- it's a 3.6% cut in my take home pay today, for no reason other than to trash federal workers.
Thanks, Paul Ryan.

(7,402 posts)WW I ended a long time ago. Today it is reduced to an opportunity for political posturing. It serves no useful purpose whatsoever so it is long past time to repeal this relic of isolationist Republicans from the WW I era. Wilson is not going to expand that war.
