VW officials defend company actions over Chattanooga election

Volkswagen officials in Chattanooga today defended the company’s call for an election, saying the potential for setting up a works council labor board is a part of a proven business model.

“The Volkswagen Group is proud of its record of cooperation and co-determination between employees, management and the communities in which we live and work. Our works councils are key to our success and productivity,” said Frank Fischer, chief executive of VW’s Chattanooga operations, in a statement. “Our plant in Chattanooga has the opportunity to create a uniquely American works council, in which the company would be able to work cooperatively with our employees and ultimately their union representatives, if the employees decide they wish to be represented by a union.”

But, some anti-union VW plant workers have complained they feel the company is colluding with the UAW to steer the election results in the union’s favor. They have said, for example, they’ve been denied the opportunity to address groups of workers at the plant, which the UAW has been able to do.

Some people look at them as corrupt and nepotistic organizations that take workers' money without actually helping the rank and file out. Others see unions as part of the systemic problems that led the rust belt into decline. There are problems with both analyses, but on the other hand the unions themselves haven't exactly done a sterling job clearing themselves of the first charge.

3. Idiots. They do not understand what it could mean for them to be in a cooperative but

respected relationship with their employer. What fools! They don't understand why VW wants them to elect representatives to help the company make certain decisions to the benefit of all. VW should fly a couple of the recalcitrants ( I know. It's not a word, but . . . . it fits.) to Germany and let them see how it works there.

VW could help our country get on a much more positive track that would benefit both the investors and the employees in American companies.

I hope VW wins out on this one.

Heavens. Why did VW go to Chattanooga? They should have introduced this in California or some Northern state. Why did they choose to go to the ignorant South. They will regret that.

6. Makes sense - the anti-union workers have to get together to petition to hold a meeting.

Just like any other interest group that wants to address the plant workers "officially". Otherwise, they have to try to talk to the workers one on one or leave leaflets in the lunch room like the parents selling girl scout cookies, real estate agents, and the MLM salespeople do. Or risk getting reported for proselytizing or harassment on the job if they push too hard to force their opinion on other workers during working hours because they couldn't get their act together enough to get a chance to be considered a legitimate representative voice when it came to the elections.

Any fool can spout out any type of stream of consciousness drivel whenever they choose. To be considered legitimate or to earn the right to be listened to with respect means you have to have enough of a logical thought process that what you say has evidence of having actual overall relevance or group impact when it deals with the subject at hand.

If the anti-union guys want to be considered a legitimate voice in this situation, they're going to have to organize.

There are more than a dozen anti-UAW billboards, many discrediting Obama, blaming Detroit, Michigan's auto industry collapse on the UAW as well as President Obama.

I for one fully support unionized labor and refuse to ever buy a non union made car. I have bought VW's in the past but they were made in Germany by German Union Labor.

If a car manufacture wants my $'s their cars best be made by Union Labor, that is how one shows their support for Labor and Working People in America.

even if they get a union those people who are opposed do not have to pay union dues but reap the benefits of the uaw.
