CBO: Guys, We Didn't Say Obamacare Would Cost 2.5 Million Jobs

Source: TPM

DYLAN SCOTT – FEBRUARY 10, 2014, 3:27 PM EST

The Congressional Budget Office issued its official rebuttal Monday to the Republican talking point that Obamacare would cost 2.5 million American jobs.

In a new FAQ explainer of last week's budget report, CBO director Doug Elmendorf, answering if 2.5 million people will lose their jobs by 2024 because of the health care reform law, said: "No, we would not describe our estimates in that way."

In the immediate aftermath of the CBO report, some Republicans characterized the report's findings as: The law would "cost" the U.S. economy up to 2.5 million jobs. The phrase quickly found its way into a Senate GOP web advertisement.

But what the CBO actually said was much different, as TPM reported. The agency said that some Americans would choose to stop working or work less because of the law. They could change their work habits for various reasons, such as starting a new business or choosing to spend time at home. The voluntary cutback in hours would be equal to 2.5 million full-time jobs.

2.5 million jobs. That is what I take that to mean, not counting the new jobs created by those who start their own business. Obamacare is working to fix one of the biggest problems in American domestic policy. That is why the GOP hate it.

one of the biggest reasons people are beholden to employers, i.e, the 1%ers and the corporations. That's redistributing their wealth! THAT's the real reason the GOP hates it.

the CBO is going to have to explain their reports in a special GOP release using GOP math and logic so they can understand what going on! Grasping Complex thoughts is so hard for the GOP!

Actually, not at all. But it will allow 2.5 million people to have jobs who don't now.

A lot of people will be glad to quit or retire opening up jobs for others.

for 30 plus years. They are in their early to mid 50s and could retire with an adequate pension..but can't because their retirement package does not include insurance. So they would have to go out and buy their own which they can't afford...so they continue to work for the insurance.

Now that they have an option to get "affordable" insurance based on their income...they will be able to retire.

This will also open up more jobs for new employees and actually save the company some money since the new employees wages will be much less.

They actually believe the #1 threat to America is Commies who teach that you can just decide to not work and depend on the government.

Because,....ya know,....we ALL remember those days when the Soviet Union was a major threat because it was lazy.
