On the Capitol: Scott Walker makes a campaign stop in Florida; GOP legislator apologizes

Source: The Journal Times

Gov. Scott Walker campaigned Thursday in southern Florida, fueling speculation about a potential 2016 presidential run.

Walker campaign spokesman Jonathan Wetzel confirmed Walker attended campaign-related events in the Sunshine State but emphasized they were related to his gubernatorial election in November.

“All events are solely focused on 2014, as the governor’s only priority is helping to continue moving our state forward,” Wetzel said. He declined to provide additional details.

Sarasota County Republican Party chairman Joe Gruters told OTC that Walker spoke to about 30 people at a private gathering.

Gruters noted that Sarasota County is “home to some of the best Republican bundlers in the country,” referring to political fundraisers. Mitt Romney held three fundraisers there in 2012.

Sarasota also has become a hotspot for GOP politicians with presidential aspirations, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, due to visit Thursday.

if he became the GOP candidate, he would certainly make any candidate to his left look attractive.

A Walker candidacy is like fertilizer for cultivating the politics of Hobb's Choices.

Smarmy, in my book, requires acting nice or warm, but in a way that the insincerity shows through. Walker is a cruel asshole and doesn't seem to mind letting it show. Although, I suppose that one could apply smarmy to his feeble attempts to appear human...

I suspect that the people of Wisconsin are tired of Walker and republicans running their state into the ground.

They voted for him TWICE. They had him in the palm of the voter's hands and they let him get reelected free and clear which just made him stronger. They should have got rid of him when they had the chance and then 2016 would not even be an option.

I think Sarasota County Republicans gave Ted Cruz a "Statesman of the Year" award recently, and dumb as a stump Trump was a previous award winner.

Rand Paul and Michelle Bachmann have also made appearances there in the past.
