Craigslist killer Miranda Barbour: 'I've killed 22 more as part of Satanic cult'

Source: Independent

A woman charged with the murder of a man she and her husband lured to a meeting point after meeting him on Craigslist, has admitted to the murder and claimed she has killed over 20 other people.

Miranda Barbour, 19, of Pennsylvania said she killed at least 22 others across the US as part of her involvement in a Satanic cult.

Speaking to Pennsylvania’s Daily Item newspaper from jail, Barbour said: “When I hit 22, I stopped counting,” adding that she was coming clean now as she wanted to be honest.

Speaking to the Sunbury based newspaper by telephone after requesting the interview, Barbour said she was first involved in a murder at 13 after joining an Alaskan Satanic cult. The leader took her along to kill someone who owed him money, she claims.

The majority of the killings happened in Alaska, but there were also murders in Texas, North Carolina and California, which she can “pinpoint on a map where you can find them”, she said.

makes me skeptical. I'm reminded of Henry Lee Lucas, who claimed he'd killed over 200 people, but law enforcement generally credits him with 15 (that includes the Texas Rangers), though some cops think he might have killed as many as 40.

In any event, until bodies start turning up, or unless she can provide crucial details in unsolved homicides/missing persons cases, I'm thinking it's BS. Not to say it's impossible.....of course it's not. There have been serial killers who remained at large, racking up a considerable body count, for a long time. Andrei Chikatilo, the "Beast of Rostov", springs to mind and of course The Zodiac Killer, or the Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run (the Cleveland Torso Murderer) were never apprehended. Not to mention whoever did in Elizabeth Short (the Black Dahlia), though that might have been a one-off, despite bearing the hallmarks of the handiwork of a serial killer.

But for the time being, I reserve the right to remain skeptical.

10. Might not be all that hard depending on who the victims are.

If they are drifters, etc, nobody might even report them missing.

She will be used to smear every non-christian believer from now on.

And if she did kill more, she can certainly lead the police to the bodies. I'm skeptical.

Great way to muddy the waters and draw massive attention to herself though.

Not saying this woman is telling the complete truth, in fact, I suspect she's exaggerating for attention or whatever. But Alaska more than most places, draws people who keep to themselves, and thus wouldn't be noticed if they turned up missing.

I'm thinkin' false memories of the "Satanic cult", a la the McMartin Preschool.

Of course, Satanism in Alaska would explain the rise of Sarah Palin.

She may have killed the poor schlub from Craigslist. Maybe been involved in more nasty shit, other killings.

But I'd take a flyer on most of these alleged corpses never appearing. Probably Satan disappeared them, right?

As a debunker friend of mine used to say, "If all the bodies of all the claimed victims of 'Satanic cults' in America were real, we'd have no fucking place to walk for the graves."

wearily,
Bright

14. It'd be more believable if she named the other people in the cult

but "Miranda would not say who else may have been involved in the alleged murders". And she's said all this to a newspaper, which makes it look like an attempt to get people thinking someone who will, I bet, never be found, is responsible for her being a murderer.

16. Per the article she says she can "pinpoint the bodies on a map"

get her some maps and pins and see what turns up. I'm no expert but 5 years working for the county coroner's forensic lab taught me to at least attempt to investigate before jumping to a conclusion.
