China says it will win West over to its view on Tibet, Xinjiang

(Reuters) - China has "time on its side" to win over Western opinion to its point of view on the restive regions of Tibet and Xinjiang, a senior official wrote on Wednesday, vowing with unusually strong language to ignore foreign pressure on human rights.
Zhu Weiqun, chairman of the ethnic and religious affairs committee of the top advisory body to parliament, acknowledged this would be a difficult task but said dissenting voices were beginning to be heard in the West.
"As China becomes more involved in international affairs, and as Tibet and Xinjiang further open to the world, more and more Westerners will have an understanding of Tibet and Xinjiang that better accords with reality," Zhu wrote in a lengthy article on the government-run website Tibet.cn.
Tibet and Xinjiang are two of China's most sensitive areas when it comes to foreign criticism of its human rights record. Tibet in particular is an emotive issue in the West, attracting high-profile support from politicians and celebrities.

It was no paradise - for sure - but Tibet was at least independent - When Mao invaded the country - he made sure the population was given a new master - who was as ruthless as the old one if you was to believe some of the histories who have been coming out from Tibet and PRC the last 60 year or so.... PRC was no friend of Tibet - and is still no friend of Tibet at all, even afte 60 year... The human right tracords when it come to PRC in Tibet is abysal at best - horrible and full of crimes who is no less wrong than the old theocratic government - with mass slavery and woman been treated worse than most beast of burden...

I suspect PRC is overstepping her own ability if they really believe the rest of the world would accept the treatment of tibetarians and Tibet by the PRC goverment... Even if they bribe the rest of the world - most of the population would not be so pleased by the treatment of Tibet....

(7,888 posts)the natives of Tibet? PRC is doing in Tibet what the US did to Native American. They are funding land grants and business loans to transplanted Chinese PRC supporters.
I'm shocked that Israel, a religious state, has not spoken up against China.

Wouldn't surprise me if you get the righties under your wing, but progressives have ideas of their own. Kind of a rebellious lot we are.
