UC Berkeley: Student arrested for apparent hate attack on roommate, police say

Source: Oakland Tribune

BERKELEY -- A 19-year-old student was arrested Tuesday morning after he made homophobic remarks and then punched, kicked and choked his roommate while the two were walking to a UC Berkeley library, police said.

Joseph Michael Donner, 19, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and aggravated assault after he demanded his 19-year-old roommate's cell phone and then accused him of being a homosexual as they two walked to Moffit Library at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

The victim handed over the phone but when they reached Campbell Hall, Donner ordered his roommate to go into a construction area. When the man refused, Donner started beating him, police said.

Donner then repeatedly punched, kicked and choked the victim, whose name was not released. Police arrested Donner on Tuesday afternoon at his residence. An email sent to Donner for comment was not answered Wednesday.

Not surprising considering so many here are on the side of those who call gay people demonic. The silence given this story is damning to all of those affecting a stance of equality.

And I have yet to see someone call LGTB people "demonic" on DU so I think your response is a bit divisive.

attack on God's plan' is often celebrated here as a role model and hero. He says this about adoption by gay people: "“At stake are the lives of many children who will be discriminated against in advance, and deprived of their human development given by a father and a mother and willed by God. At stake is the total rejection of God’s law engraved in our hearts."
He has called fighting gay marriage 'God's war'.

I did not of course say anyone on DU called gay people demonic, I said they are on the side of some who do. And they are, they say 'I love him' and offer that he should be role model for Democrats 'he shows us the way'.

wow what a broad brush accusation that DU is full of homophobes.
