Guilty in Bryan Stow beating, Dodger fans called 'cretins'

Source: SF Chronicle

(02-20) 10:00 PST LOS ANGELES -- Two men pleaded guilty Thursday to beating San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow in the Dodger Stadium parking lot in March 2011, as Stow's family called the defendants cowards who had shattered Stow's life and left him unable to care for himself.

Louie Sanchez, 31, and Marvin Norwood, 32, both of San Bernardino County, appeared in Los Angeles County Superior Court three years after the incident that raised alarm over violence by sports fans.

Sanchez pleaded guilty to felony mayhem for hitting Stow, a 45-year-old paramedic and father of two from Santa Cruz, with a sucker-punch that caused him to fall back unconscious, slam his head on the pavement and suffer a near-fatal brain injury. He was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Norwood got four years in prison for felony assault. Other charges were dropped in the plea deal.

a "Dodger fans are cretins" meme.

No, there were fans beat down at Pac Bell last year on many occasions, yet you don't hear much about it.

Sports has always drawn this kind of violence. I've seen people get their asses kicked, entire sections fistfight, a guy get beat with a beer keg (kezar), cars en flambe in the parking lot, had friends that had to go to the hospital because of gangs beating them, women hit full in the face as they walked up to their seats by other women and all kinds of stuff. Since i started going to games. And that was 1960. No night games was the rule.
