Former Guantanamo detainees seek damages

Source: AAP

Five former Guantanamo detainees are seeking damages for what they say were years of sexual, mental and physical abuse at the US detention centre, where they were held without charge or trial.

The men from Turkey, Uzbekistan and Algeria, who are now settled in other countries, alleged on Friday in a US appeals court they were subjected to forced nudity, sexual harassment and beatings, first in Afghanistan and then at the military jail in Cuba.

Justices will make their ruling in several weeks, but one of them, Judge David Tatel, said military and civilian officials at the Pentagon had failed in their duty.

"Their job is to protect the detainees from abuse, they failed to do so," he said.

Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, Blackwater (or whatever name they are currently using) and all the war profiteering corporations.

Add to that list all the politicians that voted for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

list is neverending.

I would like to see them all in shackles, handcuffs, and orange jumpsuits.

I would like to see all of their ill gotten riches confiscated.

I would like all the families who had innocent family members killed to be compensated.

Empire's fall. Once exposed, there is no dollar figure to remedy all the damage the US has done to human beings over the last several decades, but their are assets.

""The DOJ claims that in planning and waging the Iraq War, ex-President Bush and key members of his Administration were acting within the legitimate scope of their employment and are thus immune from suit”
Sucks but there it is.
I do wonder though if such protection would still apply if evidence is ever uncovered to show that Bush, Cheney and the others knowingly lied about the WMD status of Iraq before military force was approved of by congress.

right?

And then there is the mountain of money that was made from their actions, including a literal missing "mountain of US currency".
