Virginia Republican Says A Pregnant Woman Is Just A 'Host,' Though 'Some Refer To Them As Mothers'

Source: Huffington Post

A pregnant woman is just a "host" that should not have the right to end her pregnancy, Virginia State Sen. Steve Martin (R) wrote in a Facebook rant defending his anti-abortion views.

Martin, the former chairman of the Senate Education and Health Committee, wrote a lengthy post about his opinions on women's bodies on his Facebook wall last week in response to a critical Valentine's Day card he received from reproductive rights advocates.

"I don't expect to be in the room or will I do anything to prevent you from obtaining a contraceptive," Martin wrote. "However, once a child does exist in your womb, I'm not going to assume a right to kill it just because the child's host (some refer to them as mothers) doesn't want it." Martin then changed his post on Monday afternoon to refer to the woman as the "bearer of the child" instead of the "host."

Many here in SC will tell you they vote this way because they're Christians. I used to believe in tolerance but now I'm becoming convinced that religion is the scourge of existence. I have little tolerance left for people who want to make women characters in The Handmaids Tale and the women who would, seemingly, be glad to take on those roles.

I've said time and time again that the American Taliban (aka GOP) do not consider women human and this is at the crux of their attitudes and ongoing comments about women.

Now we can see and hear how true that is. They don't even try to hide anymore - that they consider women something less than human: breed cows. Incubators. "Hosts" upon which a parasite feeds.

I would imagine his host is very proud of him if she is still among the living, or if he has children the host who carried his children or grandchildren serve only a biological function.

If asked he probably endorses the Ten Commandments. I can only contemplate my Republican Fathers reaction if I referred to my Mother as a host. Even though my own values differed from his this cold callous denigration would never have passed my lips.

Although not surprised I wonder if he thought this term in a premeditated manner or if it was a spontaneous thought?

... because they believe their own mothers would have, if given the chance, aborted them.

They fear the female power to give life and to refrain from giving life.

Because that power so frightens them, their "pro-life" beliefs are really just their version of a "stand your ground" law. They will kill to assuage their fears. They will kill to keep women in their place.

Misogynists are cowards, just as SYG advocates are cowards.
