Delta Airlines: Anti-Gay Bills Like Arizona's 'Will Result in Job Losses'

Source: TPM

DYLAN SCOTT – FEBRUARY 26, 2014, 10:05 AM EST

Delta Airlines said Wednesday that it opposed anti-gay discrimination bills, as has passed the legislature in Arizona, and warned that if put into law, they would "result in job losses."

Delta is headquartered in Atlanta. Georgia lawmakers have introduced a bill similar to Arizona's.

Saying it was "deeply concerned" about the proposed laws, Delta urged their defeat. "Delta strongly opposes these measures and we join the business community in urging state officials to reject these proposals," the airline said in a statement.

The full Delta statement is below:

"As a global values-based company, Delta Air Lines is proud of the diversity of its customers and employees, and is deeply concerned about proposed measures in several states, including Georgia and Arizona, that would allow businesses to refuse service to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals. If passed into law, these proposals would cause significant harm to many people and will result in job losses. They would also violate Delta's core values of mutual respect and dignity shared by our 80,000 employees worldwide and the 165 million customers we serve every year. Delta strongly opposes these measures and we join the business community in urging state officials to reject these proposals."

1. If, this continues many large corporations (and smaller ones) will think long and hard

before they locate to some of these states. I know the corporations I worked for would not have located into states like this, at least not large operations, if it could be avoided.

Many corporations provide services and products to all types of people, they do not go looking at individuals sexual organs and habits to decide if they will do business with them.

Frankly, I find these individuals promoting these laws to be sexual perverts and they should be called out as such. Sexual gratification comes in many ways. For some, persecution and hatred is a real turn on for them.

2. This statement from Delta should pretty much kill that bill here in Georgia

I'm sure the legislation here in Georgia will still have plenty of support, but with Delta coming out so strongly against it all the big-business GOPers will have to vote against it. The tea-baggers will of course still support it, but I doubt if they'll have enough votes by themselves to push it through.

Now I'd like to hear Home Depot come out with a similar statement.

that discriminate. Even state in the press release that if people would like to visit a state that discriminates against LGBT individuals, they will need to fly using one of the airlines that finds this legislation acceptable.

has also come out against this bill. My S/O, who is his company's Apple rep for everything east of the Mississippi, says that this is extremely rare for Apple to do……but they WERE planning to put a new plant in AZ. This could very well not happen.

8. Teabaggers love this kind of crap, until they are on the other side of the equation

And then they find out how many businesses don't really want them as customers, and are more than willing to treat them as the Baggers would treat others. Then these Baggers fold like a cheap suit.

Even when just seconds earlier, they were bragging about their rights as business owners to serve who they see fit in their grand republican land of their particular god and their brand of capitalism. The minute others say fine, you creeps, we will just cut you out of our business equation as well, they start sniveling and walking things back. Such courage of their convictions...not.

Sometimes stupid doesn't know they are stupid...I can't even find the words to describe how much dislike I have nor how quickly I hope they people become ignored, then forgotten like a speed bump on the road of time.
