Bill Clinton video boosts DNC

Source: Politico

Bill Clinton’s more popular with Democrats than even the Democratic National Committee expected.

The former president drew a higher than anticipated response for the video message he recorded to promote the DNC’s new Voter Expansion Project, an effort to step up the party’s defensive and offensive efforts on voter ID and other related laws. And he got 4,000 people to give $109,000 without even asking.

In the first 24 hours since the former president’s video message promoting the DNC’s new Voter Expansion Project was emailed to supporters Thursday morning, already over 75,000 people have pledged to join the project.

The nearly five-minute video has been viewed almost 13,000 times, and was replayed to applause at the DNC’s winter meeting on Friday.

4. hes still not a liberal.

and in my humble opinion, lucky he got to be president during a technology boom/revolution...
but by golly he sure was good at reaching across the aisle, even if those people were rabidly attacking him over something irrelevant to his job, so he could bring us *slightly* watered down conservative ideas into law.
Don't get me wrong..I think hes a great speaker.. ive gone and watched him a few times actually.

but that still doesn't change the fact he still brought us DADT, DOMA, NAFTA, repeal of glass steagall, welfare reform act of 96.. etc.

I live in Kentucky and I see people giddy about him selling out a crowd (on du and other democratic sites)... but sadly they(the crowd) just want to see the ex president.
i know from going to a few Hillary rallies (heck, even i wasn't a supporter of hers) and talking to others in the crowd who had absolutely NO intention of voting for a democrat... no matter who the nominee was.. they just wanted a chance to see him and maybe get an autograph.
the crowd size had little to do with the actual election he was helping campaign for and more to do with the fact this is Kentucky.. and ex presidents don't come through very often.. so when we get anyone of national importance, we tend to flock to see 'em.

But hey.. ill take his help and i suppose anyone elses .. just so long as that jackass turtle (mitch) gets thrown out of office come election day (even tho im not a fan of the Lundergan family). i know i cant wait to cast my vote against him.

9. When will the TeaLeft ever understand we need candidates who can WIN, not extreme purity?
Sat Mar 1, 2014, 01:30 PM
Mar 2014

There is already one extreme TeaParty on the right. We don't need one on the left. Sorry, but Kucinich and Sanders, much as I like their politics, CAN NOT WIN NATIONAL ELECTIONS. To think otherwise is living in a land as delusional as those who think right wing headcases like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz can win nationally.

14. See, I find it interesting that you describe my views as TeaLeft. I haven't budged one iota

in my core Democratic views in 40 years. While I appreciate that there is some relative truth to what you say, no one acknowledges (or few do anyway) that it is the party which has drifted over those many years. And not necessarily because that's what the constituents wanted. The party, beholden to the system, has inevitably followed the money every time, and that's how we got burned with the DLC. So here I stand, forever saying "Hey, look at me, I have some real solid views" and am forever slapped down. Sorry, but I truly hope Warren or Sanders gets in, or even Kucinich for that matter, as you mentioned, because I would be there with them. I don't care who they siphon votes from. That's just my opinion. Others may differ. I'm not a spoiler, and I will hold my nose and vote for whomever emerges (if she does), but I'm just not gonna automatically roll over and rah-rah either. We are gonna have a primary.

12. Is that what you intend to do?

Go back to sleep until after the midterms? At least Bill is helping Democrats who are facing a tough reelection.

Thanks for nothing............

15. Not even sure what you are referring to. But, no, I am very active locally, thank you for asking.

Maybe I'm confused, but you are asking me something that has no answer. I'm confused about the what I intend to do comment. 2016 has nothing at all to do with 2014 (unless you are a national player with national ambitions, coattails and all). Of course I support the party, wholeheartedly and will help candidates up and down the ballot. But don't expect me to rah rah for a coronation if one of my preferred candidates jumps in the race. There are PLENTY of Warren supporters here, and Sanders too. Just because she says she's out doesn't mean she is, and Sanders has said if there is a need for him to jump in he might, a long time ago. A guy can still hope, can't he?

16. Then you missed the point of Bill's video.

It wasn't about 2016. It was about voter suppression, not the next presidential election.

17. Ah, yes. Sooo sorry. I did miss that. I jumped unnecessarily. The voter suppression is

abhorrent. I pray we put a stop to it once and for all, somehow. (Realizing it is going to take a monumental effort). Again, sorry.

13. And what does your rant have to do with the midterm elections and voter suppression?
Sat Mar 1, 2014, 11:21 PM

Can we stay focused on the next election season without bringing up the usual leftist laundry list of Bill's supposed political flaws?

At least Bill showed up and tried to help a Democrat in KY, or would you have preferred that he stayed in NY? There's no winning with the likes of you. Then YOU go out and get her elected. My two senators are Democrats, no skin off my nose who you elect in KY.

Despite all the slime and hatred aimed at him by the GOP, despite the lies of the (genuine) VRWC, he's still our best weapon against them. Despite the pissing and moaning of the purists from the Left and the haters from the Right, and despite his all-too-human failings, Bill Clinton is still the most consistently brilliant politician in America.

11. Asking Bill Clinton to be something he's not is like asking a gay person to become straight

He is what he is, a product of his life's experiences, and wishing he had or had not done this or that is useless.

Better at this point we accept and use what skills and time he has to offer.

After all, we have Bill Clinton as our unofficial mascot and the Republicans have Ted Nugent.
