Source: BBC

An attempt by pro-Russian protesters to break through a Ukrainian navy check-point in Sevastopol has been halted by troops.

Navy officer Vladislav Litovchenko told the BBC's Abdujalil Abdurasulov that the men were trying to capture the newly appointed navy commander.

He said that many of his colleagues wanted Ukraine to remain united but they were facing intense pressure from Russian forces to join them.

Ukraine: Gangs 'Smuggle Weapons Into Crimea'

...

They describe themselves as 'peaceful citizens' - local volunteers providing security against what they claim is a coup being perpetrated by 'fascists and thugs'.

"I'm from Sevastopol I'm a peaceful citizen, I'm a pensioner," one guard told us.

"I'm just making sure that everything is in order here at the entrance to Crimea, that no-one is smuggling anything that could turn our Crimea into another Maidan (Kiev's Independence Square)."

They took us to see a stockpile of weapons they claim they have seized from cars on the way into Crimea.

Just as USA's war on Afghanistan was like the Soviet's war on Afghanistan.

I think Russia will dominate the Parliment and force a new election for President that will side with Russia. I don't think Russia will be engaged in any sort of war there. I don't think any Western country will either. We will just watch as the Ukraine is forced into Russian hands.

Russia essentially took out Crimea without firing a shot. They could do so with eastern Ukraine as well....as for Western Ukraine...They could easily let that go to the EU...along with its huge debts. And the EU will "demand" aid for Ukraine from the US Government....which is paid for by us.
