Winner: Sen. John Cornyn fends off Steve Stockman on way to 3d term (TX Sen)

Sen. John Cornyn is the winner by a wide margin. The tally from the Secretary of State shows the 2-term senator with 63 percent of the vote, though all but a handful of the ballots counted so far come from early voting, and AP has called the race. Stockman trails with 17 percent, followed by Dwayne Stovall at 9 percent. The total includes nothing from Dallas County.

Stockman, who only days ago threatened to seek criminal charges against Cornyn allies for publishing an old arrest mug, was gracious in defeat. Via Twitter — the medium by which he waged much of the campaign — he wished Cornyn luck in November and called on all Republicans to support the GOP ticket.
