Newsmax CEO Wants To Combat Fox News With Conservative Cable Channel

Source: Talking Points Memo

Fox's monopoly on conservative cable news may soon come to an end.

A Bloomberg Businessweek profile published Thursday revealed Newsmax.com founder and CEO Christopher Ruddy's plans to expand beyond his highly-trafficked website and influential magazine into television with a 24-hour cable news channel called NewsmaxTV -- described as a "kinder, gentler Fox" -- launching as early as June.

“Our goal is to be a little more boomer-oriented, more information-based rather than being vituperative and polarizing,” Ruddy told the magazine.

Newsmax.com already broadcasts NewsmaxTV segments online for three hours a day, featuring interviews conducted by conservative radio host Steve Malzberg. But Ruddy sees an opening in the cable news market for a conservative audience that feels Fox has turned too far to the right.

The Fox, Inc. (R) lies are by now lamely obvious even to the Usual Sucker-Proles.

Max Lies, Inc. (R) may be just the thing pump the Sucker-Proles up again with some fresh, new exciting lies.

First of all, if it's anything like the Newsmax website, it won't be any less rabid than Fox.

"Kinder, gentler" than Fox is like saying a Great White shark is a kinder, gentler carnivore than a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Maybe a little less ferocious in scope, but only due to someone else having been bigger first.

This isn't good news. They won't drive each other out of business. they will only "legitimize" each other. Strength in numbers.

The reality is that there will now be an even greater percentage of corporate media that is slanted to the hard right. Fox News gets a lot of flack from the likes of Jon Stewart. It is singled out as a lone freak show. Two news networks spewing the same lies will only give the casual viewer the impression that what they say must be truth. Heck, they'll probably even use each other as in: "Some news sources say ....the Democrats are all sexual deviants and Muslim loving terrorists" (or some such statement)

No, I'm not including MSNBC.

On prime time even.

I'm thinking if we keep getting dinged for the "liberal media" let's really give them something to bitch about.

Edit: Nevermind, my mistake. This will apparently be to the left of FOXNews.
