PPP Poll: John McCain Is The Least Popular Senator In The Country

Source: TPM

DYLAN SCOTT – MARCH 6, 2014, 1:41 PM EST

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is the least popular senator in the United States with his constituents, according to a new poll.

Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling found that 30 percent of Arizonans approve of McCain's job performance while 54 percent disapprove -- the worst net approval in the country, according to the firm's tracking of approval ratings for senators.

McCain is almost equally unpopular with Republicans (35 percent approve; 55 percent disapprove), Democrats (29 percent-53 percent) and independents (25 percent-55 percent). In hypothetical 2016 reelection match-ups, McCain trails both former Surgeon General Richard Carmona, who ran against McCain's junior colleague Jeff Flake in 2012, and former Rep. Gabby Giffords.

The poll, conducted from Feb. 28 to March 2, surveyed 870 Arizona voters. It has a margin of error of 4.9 percentage points.

Good grief. That is a long time from now. I wish we could have ran somebody who could have beat him in 2012. That was a Democratic year and we should have pounced then.

Earlier this week, several Senators, the SoS, and Netanyahu all spoke at AIPAC - whose speech was repeated most often on CSPAN. Not the SoS, who got the Israelis and Palestinians back to the bargaining table or the President of Israel - yes, it was the ranting John McCain!

The ONE really nice thing about the poll, is that it shows the media can not make people respect or like all their favorites.

. . .A simple question: why does anyone still take him even faintly seriously? Why does David Gregory defer to him? Why does CNN have him on to discuss foreign affairs when he as demonstrated catastrophic judgment time and time again? McCain was on the Sunday morning shows 24 times in 2013 – far more than countless other Washington figures with far better records. The year before, he was invited on 21 times.

. . . He is the least popular Senator in the country and the most popular among Beltway hacks and TV producers. That tells you something that … well, you already knew.
