Climate change links vanish from DENR website

Source: WRAL

RALEIGH, N.C. —

As recently as Jan. 21, information about climate change was available on the front page of the Division of Air Quality's website. Sometime in the last two months, the page was edited to remove the link. The link used to connect users to a page full of information and resources about greenhouse gases and climate change. That page no longer exists, either.

Two major reports on climate change are also missing from the site: a 100-page report on the possible economic impacts of greenhouse gas mitigation and the state's 118-page Climate Action Plan, a multi-year project involving dozens of experts and policymakers. Both were commissioned by the state legislature, then controlled by Democrats, and completed in 2008.

. . . "We made these changes as part of our ongoing efforts to update, refresh and redesign our website," Mather said. "Currently, states do not have a lot of regulatory authority dealing with climate change. We do have responsibilities in several areas, however, and we still include that information on our website."

Mather said some of the information that was removed is available on other areas of the site, although a search by WRAL News found many broken links. He said the public can still access the reports by requesting them from the agency.

Normally I wouldn't suggest that an agency's website change is latest breaking news, but I think it's illustrative of the craziness and hubris we're dealing with here in NC, given that NC DENR just sacked several top employees in the Water Quality section Monday, AFTER we've learned about all the ways they've been silenced and hamstrung during the McCrory administration re regulatory violations by Duke Energy (coal ash spill) and others.

Removing general links is one thing. But they're making it more difficult for citizens to obtain reports about NC's Climate Action Plan, possibly because they're anticipating a crowdsourced attack on their agency's failure to follow that plan under McCrory.

And the majority voters of North Carolina put them in the position...all that was done was to blame the black guy in Washington, tell stories about gun grabs, and tell the brain dead, drooling, knuckle draggers...that this was what Jebus wanted.

And it worked...

state of NC? There's a big difference between the state taking it down and some other site. I almost didn't click because I just thought it was some right wing site that did it and nothing new. I know in LBN you can't change the headline, but please do if you post in GD. Thanks for sharing this report.

Reading your subject line fast, I thought "DENR" was an abbreviation for "denier."

I guess it may as well be.

Republicons are always busily hiding the truth and misleading the public. They really should try reading their Bible some time.

and, therefore, their corporate god let's them do and say anything that advances the cause of Corporate Happiness. Who cares that denying the obvious change to the climate and, in NC, denying and hiding the damage being done to the environment will ultimately cause in the ruination of the State, the Nation, the World and all species of life, including Republican.

You know, it really looks like the Republican goal is, in fact, exactly that: the ruination of everything, the destruction life, and the cleansing of the planet, allowing it to becoming -- helping it to become -- a big, barren, lifeless sphere. The rodents deny that is their goal, and probably most of them "believe" it isn't their goal. That's because Republicans have trained themselves to believe what they are told to believe, and to disbelieve any damaging facts -- no matter how incontrovertible --in order to please their corporate overlords, and god.

It's tragic and not a little horrifying. But most Carolinans just love these weasels to death. And its not just tar heel ignorance. 47% of the American voting public voted for the chief weasel in 2012.

We and our world are screwed. (I have to stop there because I'm getting too damned depressed and angry.)

"McCrory continues to have a negative approval rating, with 39% of voters giving him good marks to 44% who disapprove. That is up a bit from a month ago when he was at 37/47.
