Ukraine, EU to Sign Political Association Deal Next Week

Source: RIA Novosti

WASHINGTON, March 13 (RIA Novosti) – Ukraine's Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said Kiev hopes to sign political chapters of an association agreement with the European Union next week.

“I am sure that next week Ukraine will sign the political part of the association agreement and take a firm step to make Ukraine part of the European Union,” the UNIAN news agency quoted Yatsenyuk as saying.

A group of US senators led by John McCain will travel to Ukraine on Thursday to meet with leaders of its interim government, amid tensions over the southern Ukrainian region of Crimea that pushes for a referendum on joining Russia.

He may not fully understand the steps in becoming an EU member country and I trust he's not holding his breath..

Turkey has been an associate member since 1963 and joined the customs union 1995 - it remains a candidate only.

The EU criticizes that their military has too much power in government.

And I guess the harassment of journalists and the existence of "rubber-paragraphs" in their lawbook do the rest.

did not want to be part of EU and most of the Russian population doesn't.

This is precisely why CIA staged a coup and installed neonazis and fascists instead of waiting for the new elections.

For example, when Crimea gets absorbed into Russia, they will not be able to vote in the May elections.

And, believe it or not, Russia's actions are not real popular inside Ukraine.

And, believe it or not, people in the Ukraine do not hate the United States the way some at DU do.

Also note that your hero Yanukovych is EXTREMELY unpopular due to his abuse of office, corruption, and fleeing like a coward to Russia. Also note that he lost in 2004 and BARELY won in 2010.

The nationalist side of the movement is nasty and loud, but not a majority. Yanukovich embezzled $37 billion. He was ousted. People have legitimate issues with him. They got a little heated, in a country without democratic traditions. You can't expect them put up with someone like Yanukovich just because we put up with someone like Bush. They are not pussies and you don't understand them.

15. That is actually not true

Yanukovytch actually ran on platform of joining the EU. I can pull up news articles way before the protests showing that he actually pro EU not pro Russia. But as things go, the country was in dire needs of money and Russia was only ones ready to pony up the big bucks needed to rescue the country.

Also he still wanted to join the EU after that, he only postponed the signing hoping that EU will still be interested after they had received bailout from Russia. The idea that he was "pro Moscow" is not true. The Russians actually had to woo him to sign with them.

Я переконаний, що наступного тижня Україна підпише політичну частину Угоди про асоціацію і зробить впевнений і рішучий крок на шляху того, щоб перетворити Україну у невід'ємну частину Європейського Союзу", - сказав Яценюк.

"I'm convinced that next week Ukraine will sign the political portion of the Accords of Association and take a sure and decisive step that will lead to making Ukraine an inalienable part of the European Union, Jacenjuk said."

Don't feel like sorting out transcriptions, it's been a long day, so I use the "linguistic" transcription for his name.
