ATLANTA -- Federal prosecutors say two men who owned and operated a pill mill pain clinic have been convicted of drug and money laundering charges.
Authorities said Wednesday that 30-year-old Jason Cole Votrobek, of Vero Beach Fla. and Roland Rafael Castellanos, 34, of Hollywood, Fla., ran a clinic called "Atlanta Medical Group" in Cartersville, Ga., and their co-conspirators were illegally prescribing pain medications to customers.
Authorities say Votrobek and Castellanos financed and operated the clinic. A Cartersville woman worked as office manager and a Macon, Ga. doctor served as the clinic's primary physician.
Prosecutors say the group distributed oxycodone pills and ordered the doctor to see as many patients and prescribe as much medication as possible. Authorities say the clinic's doctor didn't conduct proper exams and was usually intoxicated while at work.

(1,917 posts)The only crap I can get from the doctor here hurts more than my arthritis.
" We don't like prescribing narcotics" is what I get.
New doctor. After decades with the old one, finally determined that codeine was the only thing that worked.
We used to be able to buy it over the counter.
It works. It's cheap. But some people get addicted, so I guess no one can have it.

(5,610 posts)I have had extreme orthopedic problems (MRI verified) for many years. My old Dr.s never hesitated prescribing opiates
as pain relievers. I refuse back and neck surgery, as a retired Union carpenter, I have seen too many bad results. Even my Dr. had to retire after back surgery gone bad. I did try about everything before going to opiates. I quit them for a year because of the side effects, needed a wheelchair (never used one though).
Todays Dr.'s are afraid to prescribe opiates because the DEA keeps a list of all narcotic dispensers. They want to send you to a "pain management" specialist. These Dr.'s have limited training in pain management and I have witnessed them dehumanizing people before they prescribe opiates, but that is their specialty. I had to have my cardiologist send my family Dr. a letter last year that listed ALL of the health reasons why I am disabled because he wanted me to spend $$ I don't have at a pain management Dr. He avoided DEA scrutiny that way...who can blame him.
After reading the cardiologist letter (pain is a potent stressor and inflammation deadly for me, my Dr,'s conscience/courage
kicked in and he still writes my prescriptions.
The DEA doesn't mind killing you, it is the (shadow) law.
