Strong Storms, Tornadoes Barrel Through Central U.S.
Source: CNN
(CNN) -- A powerful storm system brought drenching rains, hail and -- in a few cases -- tornadoes to a wide swath of the central United States on Thursday evening, causing damage but no known fatalities.
The National Weather Service reported a number of twisters across several states.
That includes a tornado spotted around 8:16 p.m. (9:16 p.m. ET) on the ground in St. Louis County, Missouri, near Glendale. About an hour earlier, the agency reported a "damaging" twister with quarter-size hail about 50 miles west near Washington. And a tornado was earlier reported in the Osage County community of Rich Fountain.
It was not immediately clear whether there was any related injuries or damage in any of these Missouri locales.

The weather service also reported twisters Thursday night in the southeastern Missouri community of Doniphan, as well as nearby in Butler County.

(60,010 posts)since the forecast said tonight was to be calm, I went to bed early-ish.
Our monster Golden gets so nervous during storms that I get no sleep if it is thundering.
Looks like....maybe...we will get something today, it is actually coming from the NW, could blow right past us.
but tis spring storm time, so sooner or later it will get wet and noisy around here.

(219 posts)Was at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas north of Dallas. I live very close to Frisco. The city of Denton, Texas was hit by three different storms with large hail. A scary night in North Texas but welcome rain!

(210 posts)I think it's the same cloud. The "arm" extended out with visible rotation, then turned down. Fortunately, it looked like the rotation broke up before it changed from a funnel cloud to a tornado. We also had softball sized hail in Denton, and flash floods about 10 miles from here.

(210 posts)There were some that were larger, but they tended to hit cars and shatter on impact. This was the largest whole one she could find. She said hundreds of cars on campus are going to need new windshields. (Denton, Texas)

(42,541 posts)I used to live in Denton in a 2nd floor apartment right by I35. Last night's storm coverage took me back to all the times I would huddle in front of the TV, hoping the tornadoes weren't aimed right at my complex. I live in Collin County now. We get some rough weather, too, but Denton County still seems to get hit worse.
I'm actually a long time listener, first time caller. I've been reading DU for the past 10 years plus, I just never posted (mostly read at work, and of course, I can't log into anything from a bank computer.)

(37,748 posts)I had a spectacular lightning show last night, watching from the balcony of my DFW apartment and enjoying the thunder. Hard, violent rains 5 miles to the south, west and north of me, but not a drop to be found immediately near me.
