Ukrainian oligarch offers bounty for capture of Russian 'saboteurs'
Source: Guardian
A pro-Kiev oligarch offered a $10,000 (£6,000) bounty on Thursday for the capture of any Russian "saboteur" and promised another half-million hryvnia (£27,000) to the national guardsmen who successfully repelled an attack by pro-Russian militia last night, killing three.
Igor Kolomoisky, an energy tycoon who was appointed governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region in eastern Ukraine last month, also offered rewards for handing in weapons belonging to insurgents: $1,000 for each machine gun turned in to the authorities, $1,500 for every heavy machine gun and $2,000 for a grenade launcher.
Several hundred protesters stormed a Ukrainian national guard base in the eastern port city of Mariupol on Wednesday night, but Ukrainian soldiers turned them back with gunfire, killing three. Ukraine's interior minister, Arsen Avakov, said the attackers had fired at the troops, but protesters said they had been armed only with clubs.

(10,575 posts)Indeed, in the rough and tumble Ukrainian business world, the term violent takeover takes on a much more literal meaning. Controversial billionaires like Igor Kolomoisky and Gennady Bogolyubov of the Privat Group, known colloquially in the Ukrainian business world as The Raiders, have perfected their own brand hostile takeovers. A minimum stake in a company is acquired by one of the many companies Kolomoisky and Bogolyubov control and then a mix of phony court orders (often involving corrupt judges and/or registrars) and strong-arm tactics are deployed to replace the existing members of the board of directors with men loyal to Privat. In the takeover of the Kremenchuk steel factory in 2006, Privats raid was literal, with Kolomoisky and Bogolyubov hiring an army of thugs to descend upon the plant with baseball bats, gas and rubber pistols, iron bars and chainsaws. Needless to say, Kremenchuks steel production was soon under Privats control.

RT reported on this this morning.
The Guardian left out the biggest reward
...
Besides publishing the bounties pricelist, Kolomoyskys deputy, Borys Filatov, announced that a special battalion Dnepr had been created in the region and Dnepropetrovsk was fortified with check-points.
The Dnepr battalion is just one of several military units recently created by the new Ukrainian authorities.
In mid-March Ukraines National Guard was formed from the Maidan self-defense squads which helped bring down President Yanukovich. It was announced back then that the Guard will number 60,000 personnel.

The press should stop trying to whitewash what's going on.

The word on the poster is "moskali". It doesn't mean "saboteur". Moskali is a derogatory Ukrainian term for Russians, the equivalent of calling a Jew a Kike.
Here's one of the posters
Svoboda Party activist Oleksandr Aronets has published a photo of the Privatbank banner, which says: $10,000 for a moskal (slang term for Russian). A profitable offer from Privatbank. Kolomoisky owns Privatbank along with another billionaire businessman, Gennadiy Bogolyubov.

Lovely. We're supporting a regime that offers bounties for capturing/killing its own citizens. That worked out so well in Afghanistan.
How much for capturing an oligarch?
The Magistrate
(95,237 posts)More like calling a fellow from Kentucky a hill-billy.
Words like 'Kike' or 'Yid' are murder words, and you know it. The term does not have the history of hate and mob murder of the slurs employed against Jews. You are deliberately exaggerating, in an attempt to carry by emotional heat what you cannot manage otherwise.
Rewards are offered for apprehension of criminals frequently, either for 'information leading to arrest and conviction' or for apprehension itself, though I will grant that "wanted dead or alive, $1000 reward is a bit antique here in the United States.

(3,982 posts)This is a terminology of hate and I got it straight from a Ukrainian Coworker. People used to say the same about the "N" word Sir.
The Magistrate
(95,237 posts)The word you are looking for is derived from 'without passport'; the word you used is initials of 'white anglo-saxon protestant'. One is reminded of the old tale of the Irish Brigade private caught out in a bad spot on a Civil War battlefield, when rebs called 'Surrender, Yank!' he replied 'Sure, an' yer the first man iver called me that....'

I am surprised how people are letting their emotions get ahead of them and justifying what, in many other contexts, and at other times, we fought against.
The Magistrate
(95,237 posts)I repeat my point: "Kike' and 'Yid' are murder words, with a long history of mob cry and institutionalized hate and repression behind them: the derogatory term employed for Russians here has no such heft, and everyone knows that, and that the comparison made in the post I replied is bogus, and doubtless known to be bogus by the person who made it.

Here is a database of racial slurs:
You can go through them and decide which ones you can use with impunity depending on if they were used under murdrous circumstances.
By the way likely the Moskalya term has been used during murders, definitey is used by right wing neo-nazi's when they beat Russians.
