Jennifer Gratz challenges Detroit high schooler to affirmative action debate

Source: Ann Arbor News

Jennifer Gratz has issued a challenge to a Detroit teenager who has protested University of Michigan's admissions policies after being rejected from the school this year.

The challenge? A debate on affirmative action.

Brooke Kimbrough, who is black, joined a group of U-M hopefuls on the Ann Arbor campus Tuesday during a protest of the school's admissions policies. Kimbrough and other protesters, who support affirmative action, said U-M's admissions process is stacked against minority students.

The student protesters are organized by By Any Means Necessary, a group aimed at increasing diversity at U-M and other campuses across the nation.

She's the kind the person whose mission in life to make sure that there are less Black and Brown bodies going Blue.

"Brave" woman, picking on young people.

in the first place, just not the school's business program ... just like 350+ other candidates, a significant number of which are Black AND higher scoring than her.

If you were truly denied admission, in favor of a lesser qualified Black candidate, how do you explain the 50+, lesser scoring (than you), white candidates that were offered admission AND the 100+ higher scoring (than you) Black candidates that were denied admission?

The facts of her case stunk, even to the point where her attorney admitted that she was NOT denied in favor of a less-qualified Black candidate, nor did U of T's AA policy, negatively affect her admission status.

forum.

And have the high school debate coach officiate it. And if they don't have one, make that an issue.

Would be a great educational experience.

around my neck of the woods, charters are widely regarded as grade inflators. It keeps the parents happy.

whatever way u look at it. They customarily get 35,000 freshman applicants for 5-6,000 spaces. No guarantees.

Not a good idea.

Brooke might be better served by getting her test scores up or exploring other options for college, rather than blaming other people for her falling short at UM.
