Ukraine crisis: Kiev calls Easter truce in east

Source: BBC News

Ukraine's foreign minister has said that operations against pro-Russian militants in the east of the country have been suspended over Easter.

Andriy Deshchytsia told the BBC the security services would resume military action if the separatists continued to occupy government offices.

They are refusing to leave buildings in several cities, defying an agreement reached on Thursday to ease the crisis.

In a separate development, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he would award medals to Russians who took part in the seizure of Crimea from Ukraine last month.

did not invade Crimea

Seems one side is trying to be civil, I wonder if the other side will?

'Tsar Putin, would your soldiers like ham or lamb for Easter dinner in Kiev this year?'

Maybe they can also help find all the Easter eggs, too?

Last Sunday--Willow Sunday--the news feeds talked about a wiretapped conversation in, IIRC, Slov'ansks that had been recorded. (Perhaps Goriwvets? Town didn't matter at the time.)

The pro-Russian "activists" had taken over a couple of buildings, demanded weapons, beat up various and sundry. And the question from the person doing the coordinating on the other end was to ask if they'd celebrated Willow Sunday well.

The contrast is fairly clear: One side laughs at committing violence on Willow Sunday and is proud of it; the other declares a truce on Easter.

Can't make up this kind of PR.
