Mayor Who 'Kind Of Agreed' With Alleged Jewish Center Shooter Resigns

Source: TPM

CATHERINE THOMPSON – APRIL 22, 2014, 8:14 AM EDT

The Missouri mayor who spoke kindly of the white supremacist who allegedly went on a deadly shooting rampage at Jewish centers announced his resignation Monday night, the Springfield News-Leader reported.

Daniel Clevinger resigned as mayor of Marionville, Mo. at a town meeting after residents called for his impeachment over comments he made in support of Frazier Glenn Miller, the man accused of killing three people at Jewish facilities in Overland Park, Kan.

Clevenger, who used to consider the alleged shooter a friend, told a local television station after the tragedy that he "kind of agreed" with some of the white supremacist's views. After that comment drew negative attention, Clevenger told TPM he was done talking about Miller.

The former mayor told the News-Leader after that he did regret sending an anti-Semitic letter to the editor to a local newspaper 10 years ago. He wouldn't tell that newspaper whether he regretted his more recent comments, but said that Marionville residents' characterizing him as anti-Semitic did hurt him personally.

Mr. Clevinger announces that it was a conspiracy between the Jewish news media and the Jewish bankers that forced him to resign.

No more words.

-- by the very low moral caliber of individuals such as Clevenger who are elected to public office.

The very timing of his comments about Miller indicate that he's downright stupid to an incredible degree, not to mention being an anti-Semitic bigot himself.

And I'm sick and tired of bigots denying they're bigots! This denial is nothing less than a manifestation of both cowardice and a disposition to tell outrageous lies.

Pretty soon another racist idjit will pop his head up, and we'll have to beat down another one. I sure wish there was an easier way to rid ourselves of these people (without stooping to their level).

Marionville residents who characterized Clevenger as anti-Semitic hurt him personally. Jonathan Chait will be along soon to explain to all you hatas that just because Clevenger expressed agreement with Miller's views, it doesn't automatically ensue that he's anti-Semitic. And when that happens, you will feel terrible.
