Berlusconi says Germans deny concentration camps existed
ROME Sat Apr 26, 2014 11:44am EDT
(Reuters) - Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, about to begin a sentence for tax fraud, provoked fresh outrage from his political opponents on Saturday by suggesting that Germany did not acknowledge the existence of World War Two concentration camps.
Berlusconi provoked the latest in a long line of controversies when he took another swipe at his old foe Martin Schulz, the German president of the European parliament and the center-left candidate to lead the EU Commission.
Referring to the storm created in 2003 when he jokingly offered Schulz a film part as a concentration camp "kapo", an inmate appointed as overseer, Berlusconi told a party meeting that the comments were made in a spirit of ironical humor.
"I said, nicely, that I'd get him a job given that a film director friend of mine was planning to make a film on the German concentration camps," he said.
He then added: "According to the Germans, there never were concentration camps."

(6,699 posts)The goof ball from Iran denies the Holocaust ever took place. We've got half the repuKKKe party denies global warming, millions believe the earth is 6000 years old, probably half that think the sun revolves around the earth (no, I'm not kidding!)
Who really cares what they believe or deny? You can believe reality or your made up BS. Half the dingbats that watch fox-nonsense thinks they are "fair and balanced". Let the believe whatever nonsense they want. Those with a whole brain know better, and that's what matters. The crazies don't!

The Italians should not claim anything when it came to world war two - all the time the fascist dictatorship of Benito Mussolini in many ways predated the Nazi-Germany by years - and was also rather involved in putting jews on the fast track to Auschwitz back in the days - Mussolini had most of the same laws that the germans had - when it came to who was, and who was not part of the italian stock - and had also the same ideology when it came to what it wanted to do with the jews.... But the fascist was not ready when the war broke out - to go all the way as the germans did - specially after Hitler invaded Soviet - and believed to be safe enough to make sure the jews should not be a problem anymore - and was not ready to do it alone - as the germans did - another thing was also that many in the italian government - even the fascist - was troubled by what was going on - and until 1943 when the Allied forces finally stepped on italian soil again - was doing it best to slow down the deportations - and to put breaks on the whole programs - after 1943 - and specially after Mussolini got fired by his own council - and the german occupying of its old allied - the deportation of italian jews to the concentration camps continued - and was even stepped up - all the way up to when Idalia was liberated from the german military forces in 1944-45 - in fact most jews of italian origin who was killed in the war - was killed between 1943 and 45 - when the germans was in control - and the italian fascist was doing its bidding unhindered by any restraint from the former fascist dictator...
And, I also believe Mr Berlusconi should keep his own pipe shut - all the time he have doing political shenanigans with the italian fascist party - the modern Liga Nord - is in most cases the late Fascist Party of Italy - cleaned up and made more modern - but have the root back to Benito Mussolini's Fascist Party...

(31,970 posts)The Prime Minister is chosen through the parties that win the most votes in Parliament. So unless you met members of Parliament in Italy it would be odd if you found someone who voted for Berlusconi.
