Twitter posts $132m net loss amid slow user growth
Source: bbc
The social networking site Twitter has announced that it made a net loss of $132m (£78m) in the first three months of 2014.
However, it posted quarterly revenue of $250m, $226m of which was made through advertising.
The number of active users grew to 255 million, up 5.8% on the previous quarter, but lower than expected.
Despite higher user growth than the previous quarter, when Twitter saw just a 3.8% rise, the rate was lower than many analysts' expectations.
Twitter's shares were down almost 10% in after-hours trading.

The Straight Story
(48,121 posts)I follow lots of national and local news orgs (and some international ones) as well as individual reporters.
I get news information as it is happening usually long before I hear it from anywhere else.
On the fun side I like shows like Supernatural and follow the actors, writers, etc (I have 18 people I follow associated with it). They live tweet during the shows giving a lot if interesting information on it. I get a lot of insight off an on through the day from them. I also follow a guy who draws the Batman comics and see his pencil work on new issues before they are inked. Star wars - a lot of things on that from a group that cosplays for hospitals to a slew of interesting information and podcasts.
I normally just have the one window open for it and about every minute something interesting comes across it.
I also have a list of some well known republicans and conservatives - always fun to see their crap. Especially when they end up wrong on things and have to backpedal (plus I can reply to their crap).
All of that without even using hashtags. Then it gets fun. #Syria is still providing a lot of information from people all over the world for example. A great way to just keep up on a topic. #breaking is usually pretty good for breaking news (but some trollish things here and there).
Not to mention all the giveaways and contests from some places I follow - like book publishers. I just won a free hardcover book, one ebook, virtual meet and greets with authors, and all sorts of cool things.
All this in one place, just kick back and wait for information

Use 140 of them, and you are down to break even.
After that first tweet, it's all a dead loss.

Actually, I've used it to stalk my ex-girlfriends... Kidding, of course.

I've never clicked on anything resembling an ad. The only things I see are the "promoted" tweets, which I promptly dismiss. I couldn't even tell you what they were selling.

(1,314 posts)I visit Twitter most days, but find it doesn't have as much activity as other social media.
I really do like it, but I don't find it as useful as other social media (there's that word again).
My 2cents.
