GOP calls for Eric Shinseki resignation

Senate Republican leaders called Tuesday for Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki to resign in the wake of a medical center scandal in Arizona.

Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn of Texas called for Shinseki to step down shortly after Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) gave a floor speech demanding he resign, as Republicans quickly ramped up pressure on the embattled VA secretary.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky stopped short of calling for Shinseki’s resignation outright but said “a change in leadership might be a step in the right direction.”

Cornyn said it was time for Shinseki’s tenure to come to an end as the VA was suffering from a “failure of leadership and incompetence.”

This isn't the first claim that Shinseki is a bad VA Secretary. In April 2013, the Washington Post reported on a backlog of disability claims. In August, the right wing group Concerned Veterans for America got over 25,000 signatures in a petition calling on Shinseki to resign.

7. Remember how the National Guard injured vets were warehoused at Fort Knox? waiting months for rehab?

State National Guard troops had a whole different medical plan than regular Army that went to Walter Reed for state-of-the-art care. They got nuttin.

And now those MFers want to blame General Shinseki, who is a good man.

6. Next time nominate a Repub to run the VA

I can only imagine how much of a nightmare it is to run this department. Does the VA even have normal accounting practices put in place or is it like most of the military branches where money disappears with no one really knowing where it goes?

10. I use the VA for my primary care and have care superior to what I received in the private market

It is our only single payer system!

My local hospital is considered one of the best. I guess there are others - the VA hospital in Phoenix- accused of cooking the books. But I was suspicious of this as another attack on Obama through a general who called the Neocons on their game in Iraq.

14. Rethugs never liked Shinseki. He told Bush his Iraq war would be a disaster.

They want him out because he not one of them. The Rethugs have a perverted coveting of national security and cannot stand that Obama took the card away from him.
