Democrats Walk Out of Kane Impeachment Hearing

Source: Philadelphia Magazine

Rep. Daryl Metcalfe’s attempt to impeach Attorney General Kathleen Kane wasn't expected to get far, and so far it hasn’t. Newsworks reports that Democrats walked out of a committee hearing on impeachment Tuesday.

Democrats made two attempts to put the kibosh on the meeting held by the State Government Committee. The second adjournment effort came from Rep. Mike O’Brien of Philadelphia. A terse exchange with Chairman Daryl Metcalfe, R-Butler, followed with Metcalfe asking security to show O’Brien the door.

“Please remove Rep. O’Brien from this hearing,” said Metcalfe. “I would like to make a motion to adjourn,” O’Brien responded, speaking over Metcalfe.

“You are not recognized,” Metcalfe insisted. “The microphone is not on for you to be recognized.” (The microphone was on.) “That’s it. We’re out of here,” O’Brien shot back, as his Democratic colleagues rose from their seats. “Have your kangaroo court, pal.”

Democrats later said Metcalfe wasn’t following proper protocols; Metcalfe has sought Kane’s impeachment since she declined to defend state laws banning gay marriage from a court challenge

they just think of laws as tools that either these use or that get used against them. their purpose and intent means nothing to them.

(not all lawyers, i know.)

On what grounds could Metcalfe refuse to recognize O'Brien?

Tom Corbett needs an asskicking and she sounds like the one to do it. Either that or Senate in 2016--Toomey needs to go.

And they are waiting (actually the 'thugs are screaming) for her final report to be released (they want it as soon as possible). They are afraid she'll drop the grenade into the pre-November general election period. This is why they are trying to get rid of her any which way they can.

PA folks need to GOTV this year for damn sure!

12. This is a political stunt that has very little chance of passing the Penn House

This is a political stunt by a homophobe who really hates gays and no one thinks that the full Penn. House will pass this stupid motion http://triblive.com/politics/politicalheadlines/6049502-74/kane-general-attorney#axzz30qnpC1nx

HARRISBURG — The ranking Democrat on the House State Government Committee said the Republican chairman's resolution to impeach Attorney General Kathleen Kane “is based on policy decisions, not wrongdoing.”

The committee plans a non-voting session on Tuesday about impeaching Kane, the first woman and first Democrat elected attorney general. Any subsequent committee vote would need House approval. A House vote to impeach would trigger a trial in the Senate.

Last week, Kane declined to comment on the hearing. Chairman Daryl Metcalfe, R-Cranberry, didn't invite her to testify.

Political experts view the chances of impeachment proceeding as slim in the Republican-controlled Legislature.

“This just doesn't make sense for the long-range future of Pennsylvania. It would be a mistake,” said Rep. Mark Cohen, D-Philadelphia, the minority chairman.

There are some real nutcases in the GOP

We all know if a rep gets a little too progressive in their stances, they get a blue dog competitor flown in with all the money and blessings of the top DLC honchos.
