HP earnings in line, to cut an additional 11,000-16,000 jobs

Source: CNBC

Hewlett-Packard reported earnings that met estimates, though revenue was just slightly below expectations. The company also said it would cut an additional 11,000 to 16,000 jobs.

The extra cuts bring the total to be cut in its restructuring program to as many as 50,000.

The company posted earnings of 88 cents per share, excluding items, on revenue of $27.3 billion.

Analysts had expected the company to report earnings excluding items of 88 cents a share on $27.41 billion in revenue, according to a consensus estimate from Thomson Reuters.

that give employees who have been laid off thru no fault of their own a years salary.

Unemployment benefits should start after severance runs out.

top executives cannot take any pay/compensation for 1 week per employee laid off. Lay off 500 employees? no pay for 500 weeks.

This would include ANY compensation due them, be it salary, bonuses, stock options, health benefits, cars, etc etc.

her. I was talking to this salesman at Frys Electronics the other day when I was buying my color laser printer. He said they almost have to give HP Printers away they are so bad. Kind of weird; used to be I would buy no other kind.

Canon Lasers and Two Brother Lasers and one old HP C5580 ink jet from when HP was still good. Good info. Thanks. Makes me understand more. These Canon Lasers are like real workhorses.

Hewlett-Packard spun-off the test equipment as Agilent Technologies in 2000. Agilent is totally independent from the meltdown at HP. It would appear some keen minds in the backroom understood the dangers HP would be facing and made a valiant effort to save part of Bill and Dave's legacy.
