DETROIT (AP) The 2014 Chevrolet Impala was the only non-luxury car to earn the highest safety rating in new tests of high-tech crash prevention systems.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tested cars equipped with collision warning and automatic braking systems. It gave a "superior" rating to cars that both warned the driver of a potential collision and applied the automatic brakes to significantly slow the cars.
The BMW 5 Series, BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Buick Regal, Cadillac CTS, Cadillac XTS and 2015 Hyundai Genesis also earned "superior" ratings in the test results released Thursday.
Collision warning and automatic braking systems use radars, cameras and lasers to determine if a vehicle is getting too close to the car in front of it. Most of the systems warn the driver audibly, with vibrations in the seat, or both and prepare the brakes to maximize their effect when the driver presses them.

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala was the only non-luxury car to earn the highest safety rating in new tests of high-tech crash prevention systems. It earned the top rating even though the government is investigating one driver{2019}s report that the automatic braking system went off several times without warning, eventually causing an accident. Insurance Institute spokesman Russ Rader said the group is aware of the investigation but had no issues when it was testing the Impala. (AP Photo/GM)

(1,805 posts)in his grave. He was a Ford guy when I was young, just like my grandfather was a Buick guy. However, over the years he bought a Volvo and some others I don't remember (senility setting in), but he ended up a Honda guy by the time he passed. Ha, he bought my mom one of those lime green pintos as a present. He gave it to me when she died, the sucker just kept running unfortunately. Got $100 trade-in for it when we bought our first new car years ago, a Celica.

(2,146 posts)Pay Attention to your Driving! If you can't concentrate on the road and pay attention to the cars around you, then you do not need to be driving at all, much less talking on your cell phone, texting, talking and looking at other passengers in your car, doing your makeup, opening your briefcase, etc.
Learn How to Drive! and by that I mean, learn how to use your turn signals, merge properly, pay attention to road warning signs, stay with the flow of traffic, etc.
What is the common denominator here?--
