Ukraine: Russia lets rebels attack from its side

Source: The Pueblo Chieftan

KIEV, Ukraine — Russia is letting separatist rebels use its territory to attack Ukrainian border posts, a top security official charged Friday as clashes in southeastern Ukraine killed nine more government troops.

National Security Council Secretary Andriy Parubiy also said Russia was massing troops near the Ukrainian border — a statement that could not immediately be verified. The two neighbors, who share a 2,000-kilometer (1,250-mile) border that is unmarked and unguarded outside of a few checkpoints, have been trading claims and counterclaims ever since Ukraine began fighting pro-Russia separatists in April. The government said nine troops were killed and 13 others wounded in Friday’s fighting in the east, according to the Interfax news agency. It did not elaborate on where or how the deaths occurred. Ukraine says Russia is arming and supporting the separatists, a charge that Russia denies. Ukraine is also wary about Russia grabbing more territory after Russian President Vladimir Putin annexed Crimea in March. Putin, however, has ignored rebel requests to join Russia and calls by Russian nationalists to send troops into Ukraine for fear of more Western sanctions.

The crisis in Ukraine has strained Russia-West ties to a degree unseen since the Cold War, prompting NATO to consider long-term responses to Moscow’s apparent new willingness to flex its military might.

I'm starting to favor the Ukrainian side more than before, but was neutral earlier. After all, it's a civil war and combatants find allies abroad. It's been hard to grasp the basis for this, without going into CT land. And I'll stay here.

This is a Kiev blog. And we all know the accusations have flown every which way.

Putin has agreed to place OSCE monitors and even allow Kiev troops to observe *on his side of the border* at all checkpoints (and OSCE can check between for activity). Interestingly, though their diplomat agreed, Kyiv has not moved on this, why? It is the simplest way to get to the heart of the matter.

Kyiv has said a lot of things and not done what it said. Putin is no neutral party here, but I doubt he would be making an offer like that unless he really does want to border arguments to get resolved.

9. Russia Urges Kiev to Stop Attacking Civilian Targets, Using Violent Methods

MOSCOW, July 4 (RIA Novosti) – The Russian Foreign Ministry called on Kiev Friday to stop attacking civilian targets and residential districts and to refrain from trying to resolve problems solely by force.

“We again call on the Ukrainian authorities to stop attacks on civilian targets and residential districts and, ultimately, to start thinking about saving the lives of ordinary people,” the ministry said in a statement.

“Kiev’s ongoing attempts to solve problems solely through forceful methods, through putting forward ultimatums and announcing more and more demands are against the July 2 Berlin declaration by foreign ministers of Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France and will cause only bloodshed and more casualties,” the statement reads.

The ministry said the Ukrainian authorities have intensified their rhetoric and started employing more violent methods in the eastern regions after its leaders contacted top US and UK officials, who have “de-facto supported Kiev’s actions.”

Russia Opens Criminal Case Into Ukraine Army Shelling of Border Checkpoint

MOSCOW, July 4 (RIA Novosti) – Russia has launched a criminal case into an artillery attack by Ukrainian forces on a Russian customs border control post, Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said Friday.

“As a result of proven illegal actions on the territory of the Novoshakhtinsk [border control terminal], the asphalt near a mechanical pit for vehicle chassis inspections was damaged leaving an oval-shaped hole. Moreover, several oddly-shaped piercing and blind holes were discovered in the buildings and constructions of the customs post, and shrapnel was scattered from 30 to 200 meters. This proves that those shooting had the intention to kill Russian citizens located at this given post,” Markov said.

On Thursday, Ukrainian forces fired artillery shells at a bus and the Novoshakhtinsk border crossing near Russia’s southern city of Rostov-on-Don. Two buildings were damaged in the attack. None of the employees were injured, according to the Federal Security Service.

Several Russian border checkpoints have been closed recently due to bombardment from Ukrainian territory. The Gukovo, Donetsk and Novoshakhtinsk checkpoints have been shut, as people were reported wounded in the fighting between Ukrainian National Guard forces and independence supporters near border checkpoints.

Russia needs to get the fuck out of Ukraine. Yes it's really that simple. And if Russia really wanted peace they would also give back the land that they took illegally. Everything that has happened has been because of Russia's actions. And they are still stirring the pot.

I realize you have the difficult task of trying to lipstick on a pig, but guess what? You still have a pig with lipstick.

All the propaganda in the world that you and a couple of your buddies post don't change the facts and you are clearly not changing any minds here which is evident if you look at all the threads that are posted and who says what (it's the same cheerleaders cheering for Putin and very badly I might add).

When I look at all the posts that get posted by the Putin crowd. I actually chuckle because you all remind me of Baghdad Bob and the impossible job of spreading propaganda that no one is buying, but then I stop chuckling when I realize all the deaths, mayhem, and utter chaos, that evil asshole Putin has caused.

And here's a little tip, if you try anther shade of lipstick on that pig, you are still going to have a pig with lipstick.

Have a great 4th of July I don't believe you are in the U.S. (correct?), But as I celebrate my freedoms here at home, I will remember the many people in Russia who are restricted by their freedoms even a simple one as being able to say I'm Gay in public.
