Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision is ‘fundraising gold’ for Democrats
Source: Agence France-Presse
Nothing rallies US grassroots donors quite like a political affront, and Democrats facing a wave of Republican threats are cashing in on the negativity at the height of the 2014 election cycle.
Democratic campaign organizers in Washington have seized on major political assaults by Republicans including a demand for President Barack Obamas impeachment by Tea Party heroine Sarah Palin to sweep millions of dollars into their coffers and sign up thousands of new likely voters.
Despite Obamas approval rating being in the cellar, and the odds of Republicans taking back the Senate in an off-year election reaching 50-50, the Democratic Party has been the beneficiary of a flood of campaign funds not seen since Republicans were blamed for shutting down the government in October.
Republican overreach continues to be a huge motivating factor for our grassroots, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) spokesman Josh Schwerin told AFP.

(8,200 posts)I was pondering what would happen if they succeeded to take over the senate in 2014. If they used their majority to enact legislation, such as their budget that would destroy virtually every safety net, it could result in a massive turnout in 2016 that could destroy their party. I believe that even though many moderate Republicans would resist this, the power of the Tea Party radicals could make this a sad reality. Our government system is unique in having two major parties. Theoretically, one represents the interests of business and the other the interests of labor.
Compromise was the key to successful government.
However, this principal has been sacrificed by both parties. Today's Republicans are a far cry from the Eisenhower Republicans. You only have to read his 1956 State of the Union message to be assured that he would be condemned by todays Republican rabble as a communist. While the Democrats have not completely abandoned their key role of protecting the interests of the working class, they have become to some extent the pawns of the 1% and only seem to support unions when they have their hand out for campaign donations. It appears that this nation is in for a rocky ride before the citizens come to their senses and start electing reasonable representatives who actually represent their interests.

(11,970 posts)...there is a limit to what they can pass, because they still wouldn't have enough votes to override a democratic filibuster or a presidential veto.

(5,191 posts)If people don't turnout in November to vote, all the money in the world means nothing. Do the Congressional Democrats even have a ground game in place?

(14,164 posts)...and that would mean pressure on Hillary, if she wins in '16, to lean more to Democratic principles of her base, and not have an excuse to "compromise" and cater to her hard earned established connections with the Old Boys Club on Wall St.
They didn't have much of a ground game in '12 either, and Obama can play the "good cop" to end his term. I'm just sayin

(6,241 posts)They're working on getting Wendy Davis elected this november. They have over 18,000 volunteers. I'd say that's a good ground game, at least for local races.
