EGYPT JUDGE: AL-JAZEERA TEAM DID "DEVIL'S" WORK
By SARAH EL DEEB

CAIRO (AP) — An Egyptian judge released his reasoning for harsh sentences issued against three Al-Jazeera journalists, saying they were brought together "by the devil" to destabilize the country.

The main evidence cited in the 57-page document obtained by The Associated Press on Wednesday was footage produced by the journalists that included voices critical of the government and showed the turmoil in Egypt after the overthrow of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi last summer, as well as interviews with families of those killed in the crackdown on Morsi supporters.

The reasoning was released a month after judge Mohammed Shehata convicted and sentenced the three journalists, Australian correspondent Peter Greste, Egyptian-Canadian acting Bureau Chief Mohammed Fahmy and Egyptian producer Baher Mohammed, to seven years over charges linked to aiding the Muslim Brotherhood, which the government declared a terrorist organization after the military's ouster of Morsi, a Brotherhood leader.

The verdicts raised a storm of international denunciations, including from the United States. Rights groups called the trial a "sham" that sends a chilling message to the press. The defendants and Al-Jazeera denied the charges, saying they were being prosecuted merely for going their jobs.

I trust you have spoken to witnesses who can give evidence in support of your theory.

to our Forefathers. And why the insane reason of bringing religion into our government would mean our swift demise as a Democracy.

They are more lost than they are found.

The present Government of Egypt will USE whatever justification it can to justify punishing these reporters or anyone who reports on opposition to the GOVERNMENT. If their were Communists, they would be citing Karl Marx. Citing the Devil is the same as saying these people are EVIL and must be punished, their evilness is that they report opposition to the Government.

The following was just plain funny:

cause government wouldn't use religious justification for it's actions in any conflict.

Sorry, the US Government has used Religion when it was convenient, and like other Governments discarded it when it was no longer convenient. John Adams signed a Treaty saying the US was NOT a Christian Nation, then thought nothing of citing scripture when it was useful to get something done. Lincoln quoted the Bible excessively, and his Law Partner said he was an Atheist (As was the Law Partner, who also report about Lincoln's Syphilis affecting his mental well being BEFORE Lincoln was President). Calling someone the Devil is convenient way to attack someone, and that is what this Egyptian Judge was doing. Most American Judges will NOT cite scripture, not because they do not like Scripture, but they are afraid of being reversed on appeal.

Sorry, your comment that the US Government will NOT cite religion when it is convenient to do so, goes against history and made me laugh. Today, we like to think Separation of Church and State has been the rule since 1776, but it had not been, They worked hand in glove over most of US History and will again when it is convenient for the Government. They will be separate when it is Convenient for the Government.

If you do NOT think so, look at the last set of people who rejected the dogma of the US Government, i.e the Communists who rejected capitalism. The US made it the law you could NOT join that party, no matter if it complied with your deeply held beliefs, which the US Supreme Court has long rule is the definition of religion in the First Amendment. The US made it a crime to be a communist, made it illegal for a communist toi be even employed by the Government or any contractor of the Government. It was convenient for the Government to embrace the Religion of Capitalism and force everyone to accept it as the one true faith in the US.

Just like the US used every justification to attack Communism as an evil group (even adopting some Christian dogma to do so), this Egyptian Judge is using Islam as a way to attack the Moslem Brotherhood and these Reporters as being against the Government and thus evil. That is NOT Islam, it is the Egyptian Government attacking the opposition anyway it can. The Government of Egypt want to preserve the wealth of the General Staff, and anyone who thinks the Generals have to much money must be destroyed anyway such "Evil Person" can be. Islam is convenient, but the real reason is the Generals do not want to share their wealth.

7. So that is why the Generals overthrew the MB, not that the MB was to make Social Changes

Sooner or later Mursi was going have to go after the Generals. That is where the wealth is located in Egypt and where he would have to get that wealth to share it with the poor. The Generals knew it and waited for an opportunity strike first and they did. Mursi wanted to build uo his support within the Army and the Nation before he took on the Generals, but they hit first.

Thus, my comment this has NOTHING to do with religion. People are citing Religion terms, but Karl Marx made the observation that during the English Civil War, both sides cited the bible, but afterward John Locke disregarded the bible and came up with the doctrine that the people get the government their want. Marx's comment was the Bible was cited for it was something everyone knew and could cite and in a time of crisis that is what you use. After a Revolution, people only then look around and try to determine why the Revolution occurred and then you have people who write why people did what they did Paraphrase Marx "Out went the devils of the Bible, and in came the rights of man by Locke".

Remember the poor of Egypt support the Moslem Brotherhood NOT the Generals. This Judge is a creature of the Generals, and is doing the bidding of the Generals. The Judge Cites Islam, but that is to justify the harsh punishment of the reporters AND to remind the poor who is really in charge at the present time.
