The Market Basket saga will continue to unfold Friday in two separate settings.
Employees, customers, and supporters of Arthur T. Demoulas, the companys former CEO whose ouster led to the turmoil facing the company this week, are rallying at the Stadium Plaza store in Tewksbury. We have live updates:
...
Meanwhile, the companys board is scheduled to meet Friday in Boston. The Boston Globe reports the board is expected to discuss Demoulass offer, announced earlier this week, to buy the shares of the company he does not already own from rival family shareholders, including his arch-nemesis and cousin, Arthur S. Demoulas. The Globe reported late Thursday that several other companies have also expressed interest, but its unclear how the recent turmoil at the chain has affected that interest.
Well update this story as the day progresses.

(2,004 posts)Hope the employees are successful in saving the company. Investors should listen to the employees, who actually run the stores and interact with the customers. The customers will spend money at well-run, clean stores with helpful employees. Market Basket stores were filled with bargains, good produce and nice baked goods.
Good luck to the employees!
Wish we had a Market Basket where we live.

(16,230 posts)Workers without a union standing up for themselves. It's scary to do something like this, but much easier when everyone else is doing it.
Maybe if this happens often enough and in enough places, employers will decide it's better to have the stability of negotiating tables and union contracts.
