Jesse Ventura wins $1.84M in defamation suit; jurors vote 8-2
Source: Mpls Star Tribune
Jesse Ventura won his defamation case against the estate of author Chris Kyle, a former U.S. Navy SEAL who said he punched out the former Minnesota governor for criticizing the SEALs role in the Iraq war.
The jury awarded a total of $1.845 million: $500,000 in defamation damages and $1.345 million for unjust enrichment or to be specific, $1,345,477.25.
Jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict, as instructed. Instead, with the consent of both sides, they voted 8 to 2 in Venturas favor.
Ventura was not in the courtroom when the verdict was read.

ALL of this nonsense has been shown to be a bunch of crap. Not to mention, when was the last time the govt could keep a secret involving so many people?

(47,470 posts)You mean, there were not four planes hijacked and flown into buildings, with one wrestle to the ground? There were not more than 3000 people murdered?
Or, worse, the conspiracy that our country was behind the attack? Oh, I know. It was Israel. Why not?

(39,405 posts)there might be some 9/11 related material in what he took.
Or the drug stuff.
That's a pretty big deal too.

(32,018 posts)I agree with him on certain issues like war, drugs, and health care (he SUPPORTS single payer), but Ventura is way off the rails on most other issues.

(3,829 posts)9-11 was revenge for US (and US supported) atrocities in Lebanon, Iraq, and Palestine; US bases in Saudi Arabia from where the US constantly bombed Iraq throughout much of the 1990's; plus US support for abusive dictators blow-back. If you don't understand that you know nothing about 9-11.
We should think about that while US tax dollars are being used to destroy so many lives right now in the ME.
The hijackers were also made brave by their crazy religious beliefs.

(889 posts)Everything you said is correct. Unfortunately, most Americans fell for Bush's "they hate us for our freedoms" nonsense, as if 9/11 happened because Americans can vote for their school board members.
None of this justifies 9/11. It was an evil thing, and Bush was right to try to punish them (even though he bungled the job). But at least everyone should be honest about what provoked the attack in the first place.

(3,829 posts)Many of the provocations for 9-11 happened on his watch, including this atrocity:
Here's Osama in his own words:

So with these images and their like as their background, the events of September 11th came as a reply to those great wrongs, should a man be blamed for defending his sanctuary?
Is defending oneself and punishing the aggressor in kind, objectionable terrorism? If it is such, then it is unavoidable for us.
This is the message which I sought to communicate to you in word and deed, repeatedly, for years before September 11th.
Both HW Bush and Clinton helped provoke 9-11. Clinton also contributed to the embargo that starved to death many Iraqis, in addition to his constant bombing of Iraq from Saudi soil and doing nothing while Israel committed atrocious against Lebanon. The hijackers themselves were motivated especially by Israel's actions.
"Truthers", like Jesse Ventura, help the war mongers by distracting the American public from the truth.

(6,119 posts)in the last 10 years of living here in MN, I have seen Jesse twice. 1x with Occupy MN and he was very down to earth interacting with the young people and with the Veterans (mostly Vets for Peace).. and then joined the 1000+. mostly natives march to the Metrodome to protest Washington DC football team. He was again gracious with the Vets..
When I heard what the sniper said about Jesse on Fox show I knew it was a lie right away. besides the guy said basic Fox Hannity talking points.
also.. "scurf face" is not a really a way to describe Jesse.. he doesn't have much facial hair. Scruff face is usually a way to describe someone with a hairy face/beard.. etc.
So I am glad Jesse won. He deserved it.

I did not have problem with that. Certainly was different.
Still, like many in Minnesota I would agree with "what good name?" "what honor" He has been a joke.
But I did take notice when he said that essentially he was blamed for treason, which in the military calls for the death sentence.
So, I suppose, good for him.

(6,096 posts)up for what the believe even if I don't agree with them. I wish I had that trait myself, because I rarely say what I really think. I think people in this world are much to passive about what goes on with our government AND especially our news. We are rarely hearing the truth.

(3,655 posts)Even Kyle couldn't keep his own story straight. One account has the fight occurring at the bar, another on the patio. None of Kyle's witnesses were in the immediate area and all of them told different stories. One woman sitting at the bar next to Jesse saw no fight, neither did the guy who put on the event. None of family members who were the targets of Jesse's alleged comments testified to them. The woman sitting at the bar heard comments that are exactly opposite of what Kyle claimed.
As Jesse pointed out this morning, he is on blood thinners and would have shown evidence of a fight. It was pretty damn clear that this was a fabrication by most of the evidence.

(6,096 posts)aware of it until today. Since you must be from Minn. it appears you were able to learn alot more. THANKS for the info. Jesse seems to be failing in health and that makes me sad. He was shaking and then when he said he was on blood thinner, I know he is pretty sick. Jesse was also a SEAL, I did not know that. What an amazing man!!!!!!! I wish more people with balls would run for congress!!!!!!

(3,655 posts)had on a guy who is following the trial. Minnpost also has good coverage. Most of the local media has refused to cover actual details of the trial. I think they are still hurt from Jesse's attack on them. Jesse made them wear badges that said "media jackal" at the capital when he was gov. I wonder if he has any left? He should send one to Nora

(7,720 posts)He is on blood thinners because he had a blood clot.
If you saw him being interviewed on TV and he was 'shaking', that is not because he is sick, it's just a nervous habit that he has had for decades.
He also was not a Navy SEAL. he was a UDT (Underwater Demolition Team) Frogman. There is a difference. SEALS saw combat (a lot) in Vietnam. Jesse Ventura (James Janos) spent his time at Subic Bay in the Philipines. UDT merged with the SEAL teams in 1983.

(6,096 posts)am a 69 year old widow..and he reminds me of my husband during his last year. A blood clot is a blood clot is a blood clot. I never saw him shake before...so sorry if I missed it...he did not have this nervous habit when I saw him.
According to Jesse ON CBS this morning he was a Navy Seal and according to this article:
Read more here:
http://sofrep.com/36086/truth-jesse-venturas-navy-seal-status/
Its why the UDT is still part of the training acronym BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL).
Like it or not, Jesse Ventura is a Navy SEAL. He did the pushups and put up with the cold water, just like the rest of us.
If I quoted something from a fairy tale book, sue me.
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)Because of that, Jesse Ventura had to quit wrestling.
Sure, the initial BUD/S training, where more than 80% flunk out, was the same for UDT and SEALS from 1962 to 1983. UDT members were merged into SEAL teams in 1983. While both were active, SEAL teams and UDT had very different missions. UDT did demolition work under water, when needed, which involved clearing some reefs off the coast of Vietnam in the 1960s. They did not go on shore. Meanwhile, the SEALs were part of the brown water Navy in Vietnam.
Jesse has had the nervous shaking habit ever since I saw him as the Mayor of Brooklym Park more than 30 years ago. Just because you had not seen it does not make it true.
Why all the angst? Why the interest in my underwear. I certainly have zero interest in yours. (Argh...)
