President Obama to GOP: 'Stop Just Hating All the Time'

Source: Associated Press

Pointing the finger at Republicans for congressional inaction, President Barack Obama chided lawmakers Wednesday for spending the waning days before their month-long summer break trying to sue him rather than addressing economic issues that could boost the middle class.

"Stop being mad all the time. Stop just hating all the time. Come on," the president said in a boisterous and sharply partisan speech in Kansas City.

Addressing about 1,500 supporters at the historic Uptown Theatre, Obama cast the stalemate in Washington as a personal reaction to his presidency, accusing Republicans of choosing political stunts to undermine him over taking action on issues like immigration, transportation spending and tax reform.

(snip)
"I know they're not that happy that I'm president," Obama said. "I've only got a couple of years left. Come on, let's get some work done. Then you can be mad at the next president."

Most I talk to and that's a lot of people are mostly concerned with the Drug War ending and NSA surveillance. These are actions that directly affect these people here. They aren't ideas, foreign wars, future economic assistance etc. They don't want wars being waged on them here at home and are sick of the police state. Obama supports the Drug War and is against recreational and medical marijuana while supporting NSA spying. Hillary most definitely supports these for profit industries on the back if people's freedom. Her and her war profiteer friends have allowed Rand Paul to go after these votes. He could easily beat Hillary. If Hillary actually CARED about Americans she would support ending mandatory minimums, drug forfeiture and marijuana illegality as well as Stasi like NSA spying in which NSA whistleblower Willuam Binney suggesested yesterday that a grass roots revolution could emanate from.
But Hillary seems to only care about power and her own personal goals. All of us support ending the Drug War that's obvious. So why would Hillary let Rand Paul steal this issue and probably a win in 2016? And if you follow the details 95% of what NSA does is drug war duty on Americans as well as "leverage" gains on journalists, politicians, attorneys and judges. It stinks.

Young voters have known nothing but Reaganism & one type or another of dysfunction in government across their whole lives. They have little concept of the post-FDR era, and little reason to think of it as anything more than a Democratic fever dream.

Dont let Libertarian Republicans take all those legalization, Drug War reform and anti-NSA votes. It's very foolish. People will vote on these issues alone.

as a way to get out the mid-term vote. Get it on the ballot one way or another--if only as an advisory referendum, associate it with Democratic candidates--and roll out the youth vote for the Dems. This would have been the perfect year for it in WI (we have only advisory referenda, not initiatives on the ballot). But the chickenshit Dem candidates are convinced Wisconsin's not ready for that!!!!!11!

Thats what we need. You can't even be one step behind these days. Hillary and Biden are just that. No one wants a replay of the past. Same goes for Jeb Bush. If its Bush vs Clinton expect a 3rd party insurrection. People are sick of this crap and I believe it's gonna get real. Let's not be as stupid as the old guard Republicans. If they nominate Rand Paul Hillary would lose unless she suddenly decides to terminate the drug war and NSA coddling which are both directly related by the way. And if she does she will also have the hurdle to overcome of sounding sincere about it.

They, the Republicans, hate everything this man has done. They hate in a way that is way beyond racism, it is against this country. It is a way that we hated the Germans and Hitler during WWII. They have never given him a chance. I recall very clearly, giving Nixon and Jr. a chance. Maybe they would work out. maybe. Perhaps something good would come out of them. They never, from day one, ever gave this President a fucken chance....It was all about Hate. Hate and more Hate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and watch what I can do for you.

I've gotten Harry Reid and the hold outs in the Senate who voted against ending the filibuster to agree to temporarily do so until the end of term in office if they retain the Senate and we win the House.

So from January 2015 until January 2017, you'll get a chance to see what the Democratic Party can do without obstruction and our party will entirely own the consequences of what happens during that time, no hiding behind the skirts of GOP obstruction or claiming that we had to dilute a proposal to break through Republican intransigence. It will all be us, undiluted.

Then in the 2016 election, you will have a clear choice between a Democratic Party that works for everyone and a Republican Party that only works for the very wealthy.

It will be an experiment in democracy, but only you can make it happen if you get to the polls this fall."

That look on his face speaks volumes to me. Hatred and egotism are not a part of Obama.

He looks tired, sad and exasperated. It's as if saying:

'With all due respect, no, you can't take your brothers' toys just because you can.'

He has said before that we must move from the 'Might Makes Right' paradigm to 'Right Makes Might' where everyone will agree on solutions that treat everyone as equals to be right.

That's how peace will come, first to the heart of those who choose to accept it. Those who won't, will destroy themselves and what they thought they were saving, a great loss in some cases.

discourse to drive people into an absolute emotional frenzy. This negative emotional frenzy only feeds upon itself. Once you say that a person who disagrees with you hates you, or that a person whose viewpoint is different from yours is a hater, you hammer an iron wedge between you and that person that is almost impossible to withdraw. Is that what DU wants? Is that what the President wants? Is that the best thing for this country?

I don't care who is using it--Dem, Rep, Libertarian, Naderite--or what position he or she has. And yes, this means the President. Especially the President.

There hasn't been this much discord in the country since the late '60s, but even then, our political leaders, even Nixon, did not publicly refer to political and policy disagreements as "hate" and those who did not agree with them as "haters," even if that's what they were. Because words count.

Words count, Mr. President. Words count, DU. Words count, Sen. Cruz. Words count, Rep. King.

Yes, those that disagree with us, our political opponents, use crude words, and yes, some are racist, but mostly they are people who see things differently, and unless we have another civil war, we have to live in the same country. Why should we, with our choice of words, do more to tear this country apart? Why should we be as uncivil as some of our opponents?

Tomorrow night, CNN will re-air the episode of its documentary, "The Sixties," devoted solely to the year 1968. A few DUers, like me, are old enough to remember at least some things about that horrible year. For those who are too young to remember, both the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy gave their lives for their causes in that year.

Does anyone here really think that either of those two great men would cheer the divisive language of our current political discourse, particularly in a speech made by our wonderful President?

I think not.

Wake up, people, before you tear your own hearts apart with your hate for your fellow misguided citizens.
