Rick Perry shrugs off 1,700 deaths in Gaza: ‘War is a horrible thing’ so people die

Source: Raw Story

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) on Sunday suggested that 1,700 civilians who had died in Gaza — including children — were legitimate targets for Israelis because Hamas was using them as human “shields.”

Last week, Perry called on the United States to provide “vigorous support” for Israel so CNN’s Candy Crowley began her weekly Sunday show by inviting him to share his thoughts on the ongoing fighting in Gaza.

“When you look at 1,700-plus civilian deaths in Gaza — the large majority of which are civilians we are told — what is your thought about that, what is your reaction to that?” Crowley wondered.

“War is a horrible thing,” Perry responded without emotion. “There are individuals who lose their lives in war.”

Aug 2014

"The IDF said it completed an investigation into the shelling on Thursday of an UNRWA school in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza, and found that Hamas terrorists fired at the army from within the school complex. The terrorists fired anti-tank missiles at soldiers, the army added.

The IDF fired several mortar rounds in response. One IDF mortar fell in a yard near the school, which was empty, according to the military."

http://www.jpost.com/Operation-Protective-Edge/Hamas-fired-anti-tank-missile-from-UNRWA-school-yard-was-empty-when-IDF-respond-369116

Basically the apologists suggest that Israel should disarm herself and allow Iran and other other Islamist nations fund terrorism within her borders until THERE IS NO MORE ISRAEL!!!!

Because this is what the radicals w Hamas want, Just like Saddam, hide missiles and weaponry in schools, fire barrages of missiles at populated areas in Israel, then claim victim status when Israel defends herself to TAKE OUT THE GENOCIDAL HAMAS SOLDIERS!!!!

No, I don't think a world where terrorism goes unchecked and unpunished would be a good place, I'd rather not go back to the days where women/children were seen as property, stonings of innocents occurred on a daily basis ordered at the whims of powerful men, and religion LIMITED OUR PURSUIT OF INDEPENDENCE AND FREEDOM!

No thank you!

If a terrorist faction hell bent on converting or killing me STARTS BOMBING MY COUNTRY, I HOPE MY GOVERNMENT USES MY TAX DOLLARS TO BLOW THEM TO DUST!

I take anything they say with a grain of salt. I read their comment section Alll the time. Calls for genocide, hatred towards our president and nation. Yeah.

Funny thing about the IDF's explainations..... There is still no justification for killing all those children. And women. And noncombatant males. It seems to me that the IDF is the group doing most of the killing and Hamas is targeting soldiers. I use the death totals provided by the UN. IDF has killed hundreds of chikdren in this operation and Hamas ZERO. Who is the real terrorizer? The one killing babies or the ones who live in an open air prison? I think it's the one killing babies.

every effort to protect its people without taking Palestinian lives -- the wall, the shield and diplomacy.

But the Palestinians were so intent on entering Israel, presumably, based on past history either to kidnap Israelis or to injure and kill them, that they built a complex network of tunnels under Israel that exited within Israel.

How is Israel to respond to such a determined effort to harm its citizens. They took extreme measures to avoid retaliating with force and the Palestinians built tunnels.

I want peace. I want both sides to negotiate. But the Palestinians have to get their extremists under control.

And that was just in one month. Those rocket shooting extremists haven't killed any with their non 'well disciplined Military'. So, is it any wonder that my generation does NOT support Israel and we are becoming conditioned to NOT support them in the future?

Nothing gives a nation the right to murder civilians without criticism. Not past wrongs, past trauma, history, nothing!

Those living in Gaza are mostly younger than me. I'm 33. They had nothing to do with anything that happened in the past and are being kept from having a secure future by the State of Israel. By bombing UN shelters and the like, Istael has lost the credit and authority to call others extremists or terrorists in my eyes. They need to know that eyes are watching them and they are losing the respect of the world and are losing the goodwill of the next generation.

Nothing can remove the stain of dead children from the hands of the IDF. Nothing.

I am entirely opposed to what Israel has been doing here; and also to Hamas. It's not true that Hamas has killed ZERO people. They killed 66 Israelis and one Thai worker. I don't think any were children, but they certainly killed children in the past.

They have killed zero children in the last month and mostly soldiers were among the deaths caused directly by Hamas. I like to read Jpost since it's a bit like reading red state. My favorite is the comments section.

The IDF is switching places with Hamas and are now the biggest killers in the area (palestine/israel)of children, pregnant women, teenagers, and non combatant males. It is terrorism. At one time i despised Hamas, now I don't. Thanks to the IDF. Thanks to the nasty comments made by supoorters of Israel. Grosses me out.

Being an oppressed people does not give people the right to oppress others. Imagine if african americans got given a 'homeland' in Baja California by the UN and then kicked out as many mestizos as they could. Then proceeded to steal their land for generations. Then bombed them for our own safety.

I'm done feeling sorry for people who don't care about the next guy. I'm a millenial. My generation does not support Israel in this. They have changed the way i see them as a nation for the rest of my life. I know nobody cares about what us younger people think about it, but what about in ten years? Twenty? Israel gets my back from now on until they give back what they stole, apologize, make restitution, and leave the Palestinians the fuck alone and work on their own racist, right wing, settler element.

I am not alone.

Think of Mr. Perry as the US version of Kim Jong-un. America would be a much safer place without this terrorist threat hanging over our heads.

Mon Aug 4, 2014, 12:30 AM

Terrorism is also evil as is greed, as is bombing innocent people.

So both sides need to work very hard to, on the Palestinian side, control the hate and terrorism and on the Israeli side, the fear and the kind of retaliation that fear causes.

Both sides have to work to protect the lives of their own citizens. It would be best if they worked together.

Let's remember. The Palestinians used bombs within Israel. The Israelis built a wall. The Palestinians then shot rockets into Israel. Israel built a missile shield to deal with the rockets. The wall and the missile shield were huge investments, and the Israelis built them rather than invade Palestine for revenge.

And then the Palestinians built tunnels under and into Israel.

To circumvent Israel's peaceful responses to the Palestinian aggression, Israel built a wall and a missile defense system.

And Palestine went underground to circumvent the wall and the missile system.

That would be OK, but Palestine has been unable or unwilling to control its terrorists. The history of Palestinian terror is too long to recite here. Just Google it. You will get pages and pages of Palestinian terrorism.

Young people do not remember the history of post-WWII, the many, many refugees, many of whom came to the US. But some of whom went to Australia, Canada, South America -- everywhere in the world.

Young people do not know much about the Holocaust -- not really. They do not know how many survivors were children, how many of the survivors could never return to their homes and feel safe.

Young people read the newspaper but don't learn history in school. If you don't know history, you cannot understand current news. I see a lot of that on DU.

Those of us who are older, especially me since I have been watching the events in Palestine/Israel since 1952, know just how many acts of terrors were committed by Palestinians, how many wars were begun and lost by Palestinians and are hoping that Palestinians will finally realize that peace is in their best interest.
